Plex intermittently slow to load movie/show metadata

Server Version#: 1.17.0.1709 (running in LinuxServer.io docker on UnRAID)
Player Version#: Roku Plex v6.3.14 on Roku Premiere+ (the 2016 revision) running latest Roku OS.

Video of the issue I’m experiencing: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1JOpNagkD3nBZITF16OxLC9bbj7oTH-K2

Randomly when using the Roku app I can pick a show or movie and the UI will go to blank screen and spinning wheel for anywhere from 10-30+ seconds. Normally all UI elements work very snappily (less than a second per click).

I have not been able to reproduce this in the web client or on my Android Phone, it SEEMS to be exclusive to the roku client for me. It started maybe a week or so ago.

-I have done the plex dance of Scan libraries, empty trashes, clean bundles, optimize library.
-I’ve verified I don’t have library scans running during these times
-I DO see some slow query errors here and there in the logs, however they do not correspond to the times I experienced UI lag so I’m not sure they are related. My library is about 40TB, so not the biggest out there by any means.
-I don’t see any database wait or database locked errors.
-It happens to both movies and TV show libraries.
-I have a 1TB Samsung EVO 850 and it is only a few years old that plex and all my other dockers run off of. SMART shows it to be OK.
-I have checked for file system corruption on the Cache drive in UnRAID and found none.

I see there is a new roku plex preview beta, I will give that a try when I get home today.

Here are my logs, I turned debug on for like 15 minutes around 8PM CST and I messed with the Roku player and got it to “load lag” several times during that time.

I don’t see anything in there that screams “HERES THE PROBLEM” so I’m looking for some assistance.

Thanks.

EDIT: Thanks for reminding me @JuiceWSA, my roku is also wired so WiFi is not in play here.

EDIT2: Forgot to provide techie specs. Plex has access to 6 cores of a i7-4770 (pinned via docker) and 6GB of RAM, and when these lags have occured I can check cadvisor and I don’t see any unusual spikes in CPU or RAM usage.

Here are more from this morning (not with debug on though):

I’ve got a wired server (Win10 - AMD FX-8350) to wired Ultra and it’s funny (not Ha Ha), but UNO staggers my Ultra as if it was that Roku2HD I’ve got in a box of junk somewhere…

I would panic if it took 30 seconds to load or do anything, but times just short of panic are commonplace.

Overall Uno has been extremely snappy for me and I have loved it, which is why this suddenly happening was such a souring experience that I have been desperately trying to solve.

So far I haven’t head any reports form family that I share the server with that they are having trouble and IIRC I’m the only roku owner.

I like UNO - save for a few particularly annoying ‘features’, or lack thereof - it has never been what I would call ‘snappy’ by any stretch of the imagination.

My Ultra is the 4660 with but one, I think, newer version. I’m not sure which Roku is the prime target for UNO, but an Ultra is pretty much the flagship device on Planet Roku. Did we aim at the next device? Well, don’t worry, here it is:

Pre-Order your New Ultra Today…

And here’s something that may make the UNO on Roku thing moot - if the new layout is so annoying nobody can use it:

A few ‘zones’ down the page is the 9.2 Launch info - and it sounds pretty scary to me.

I don’t see any Roku logs from chaberman43 at that time. Did you enable Remote Logging or is the Roku possibly using a different username? Could you enable Remote logging and replicate the issue again. Report back with the time/timezone and username once you replicate the issue. Thanks!

Apologies, I meant on the server! I totally forgot about the remote logging option in the roku app.

When I get home this evening I will reproduce the behavior after turning on remote logging in the settings.

Ok, I turned on remote logging around 440PM CST. Got it to act up 3 times between 445 and 450. Twice in loading a TV episode and once with a movie.

Hopefully you can help me get to the bottom of this!

EDIT: Just tried the latest roku plex preview channel, second episode I tried to open hung for about 10-15 seconds before thumbnail and metadata loaded.

I do see quite a few requests the server is taking a while to respond to. Some are the library endpoints, and some are the home screen rows, like On Deck. I’d suggest optimizing the database (which should happen automatically). Sometimes a manual optimization is useful if you have marked a lot of items played/unplayed, or added a lot of new media and don’t want to wait to optimize the DB.

  • Open Plex Web: http://app.plex.tv
  • Click on MORE in the side bar
  • Hover over your server, and click options button ( ⋮ )
    • Manage Server
    • Wait a few minutes and try the Roku channel again.

I have optimized my database manually probably 6-8 different times over the last couple days trying to troubleshoot this.

What else could I try?

@ljunkie

Bump. Still noticing issues.

Any other ideas on what I can try?
