Plex Internal Server Error - Problem Signing into Plex

@nagle3092

Days like today, in spite of the inconvenience caused, provide justification for the fallback I detailed above.
What comes of this is anyone’s guess. I will keep up my efforts but I’m only one voice in the chorus. (yes, i’m sometimes kidded for singing off key but I keep singing anyway… haha)

I did drop the hint to make me in charge… I guess my resume got lost in the email/internet somewhere :smiley: lol
(truthfully, I don’t want the job… I’ve done my time in that position for too many years. Time to pass the torch but I will always help )

I second this, but for a different reason…the reason he should be in charge of everything is because he is posting and replying to us all! I love that! Very unique on the Plex Forums here. Now, hopefully he can get on the removal of the News for managed users (my 4 years old does not need to be exposed to death/destruction videos in the “News” section).

Great job on trying to help this morning!

Wait you have news showing under a managed user? It doesn’t show up for me and according to big wheel it shouldn’t be available for them.

@BigWheel said:
managed users will not be able to use it until we have a mechanism to remove news completely from accounts which choose to remove it. Managed user accounts are generally used for children’s accounts and many folks do not want their young children watching news because of possible subject matter.

Anyway I hope they don’t hit ChuckPA for actually communicating with their users.

Well it sounds like you have good ideas that should have been implemented long ago as today has shown us. Hopefully they will listen a little better after this.

I don’t want to hijack the wrong thread, but you are corrected, managed users have the News (at least the 3 users of the Home group I just checked). Here is the other 2 threads I have been following…

Yes please.

Two things happen…

  1. When the process crashes (Windows), it generates a crash dump file.
  2. When PMS restarts (by you), it sees the crash dump file and uploads it if you have crash dump reporting enabled.
  3. The log files give us the identification information (anonymous string) we need to go get that crash dump information.
  4. Using the log files and the crash dump a) We help you and b) we give Engineering the info they need.

ive narrowed down my problem to the DVR. its when there is a scheduled or manual recording happening.
plexmediaserver process goes away and the grab folder has a recording folder in it but no actual recording even though it still has a tuner lock on the hdhr. going to see if it comes back once the scheduled recording ends in 20 minutes.

oh, and there are no crash dump files anywhere.

That’s good. The unfortunate part is I can’t help you there because I don’t have or use DVR in any way (I live in the country and cable isn’t worth it)
You might be well served asking in Windows about crash dumps but I would post in DVR/Live TV and link this thread.

The support team there will be able to see what you have. Please make certain to include the info in your latest post… They will want to know that first.

I dont know what in ten thousand f#$!#@ is going on over there today, but my pms tried to resync all of my devices at once this morning and i coudnt even sign in to stop it. On vacation, couldnt fix it before my flight left. #NoInFlightPlex #nooooooooooooooo! #worstFearCameTrue

Already working on the ‘how to enable / disable / control’ . I had hoped Engineering would have completed that prior to News launch but obviously not.

Here’s a process / progress thought

  1. Step 1 - Be able to enable / disable News for your account through Plex.tv Account settings.
  2. Step 2 - (this will take effort from all teams) User-facing Plex/Web preference for News control
    2a. Checkbox 1 supplements / supersedes the global on/off at plex.tv
    2b. Checkbox 2 turns news on/off for managed users

This response and suggestion is why you should be mayor!

Local Media Server unavailable to local media client devices due to a network outage. Shouldn’t be a problem really, but I guess Plex know better :wink:

For those who didn’t read the announcement or check the status page. , the main US servers suffered a severe outage. Those who had existing connections should not have been disrupted.

The US outage impacted the metadata servers as well as the authentication and Remote Access controller which links your account to your IP address (MyPlex)

So to clarify, is everything 100% as it should be now? Or will there still be broken aspects for a little bit?

To my knowledge, all is as it was.

(like those words? hehe)

it should be fully operational here’s the status page so everyone can keep an eye on it

@ourcontact
and yes, hopefully they’ll learn an important lesson in this. So strange that they don’t have redundancies on something like this, or at least distribute the load so If one fail it dosen’t cause a systematical collapse. but tbh I don’t have the technological insight to comment on this stuff, but it seems strange.

Coincidentally my Internet access is down now and I am in the same situation.

I can run plex and connect to local server on PC or iPad, but not on Smart TV, TiVo app, etc.

Why can’t the smart apps start up and utilize a LAN connection even when Internet or Plex services are unavailable?

Because Plex want everything connected to them so they can collect the data.
