Plex IOS app has useless tabs in region

Server Version#:latest
Player Version#:latest

Hello, I live in the UAE and because of that plex on demand and plex live tv do not work due to restrictions. This leads to the bottom tabs showing this message. This is very annoying mainly because there is no option to remove the tabs at all. So 2/5 of the options on my screen are useless and it is very annoying. If there could just be an option to remove it in the first place this wouldn’t be an issue at all

Visit this page:
https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources

(You must be logged in to use it.)

You can also get to the same page by navigating to Settings → Online Media Sources in the Plex web app.

Set Live TV, Movies & Shows, and Discover Source to “Disabled.” You’ll then need to close the Plex app on the iOS client and restart it (you may also need to “Reset Cache” in Settings → Advanced). This will remove the Live TV, On Demand, and Discover tabs in the UI.

Note: This removes these sources from all of your Plex clients. It shouldn’t be a problem in your case, since they’re not supported in your region. Also, this is an account-level setting; it doesn’t automatically propagate to users outside of you and your managed users; shared users will need to disable these themselves.

I was able to do that, and it did make the discover page go away, but the live TV and on-demand pages are still present, even after resetting the cache and app.

Please show a screenshot of the settings on the page I linked:
https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources

Here you go. Thanks for the help btw.

What about the top of that page? Do you not have “Live TV” and “Movies & Shows” as options?

If not, can you try a different browser, or maybe in incognito (private) mode?

No… haha should I? This is all I see:

Maybe because live TV and on demand isnt supported in the uae the option isnt showing up on the web, but the app doesnt do that. So I can try connecting with a vpn and seeing if the option pops up.

Edit: Ah-ha i was right. thats annoying but at least it makes sense

Were you able to disable them by perhaps signing in via a different region (VPN)? I suppose it would make sense, from a certain point of view. But if it’s not supported in a region, and they are able to remove the options based on that, they should also default those services to be disabled, in my opinion.

Yeah, I was able to disable it from the web UI using a vpn. But it is annoying that I need to do that, and it isn’t disabled in the app like it is in the web UI.

Thanks!

You’re welcome, happy to help! Glad you were able to sort it out; though you’re right, you shouldn’t have had to jump through hoops to do that, in my opinion.

@Atomatth
Is this something you could perhaps raise to the powers that be? The problem being that the services in question (Live TV and Movies & Shows) defaulted a state where the server owner saw them but, (presumably) because of region restrictions, they couldn’t be disabled because the options to do so weren’t present in the interface. They needed to sign into Plex web via a VPN to be able to do so.

If the app knows enough about the region to remove the online media sources options for Live TV and Movies & Shows, it should probably set those options to “Disabled” since they can’t be used anyway. It creates unnecessary friction for the user, in my opinion.

We’re aware of this issue. Not the first time it’s been reported. I’ll have to bump the existing issue to see what we can do. Thanks for providing support.

Thank you!
