I’ve been using Plex with a Plex Pass for two years now. I’m a happy user, except for two frustrating bugs, on of which I’ll describe below.
On my Plex server, I have a library of TV shows, organized by seasons, with one file per episode. I watch these on my iPad using the Plex app. It often happens that I pause an episode midway and close the iPad. The next day, I unlock the iPad, Plex is still open, and I press play to continue watching. This always worked perfectly in the past, and the viewing experience was smooth. It was much better than the clunky solutions I used before Plex, so thank you for that!
However, since the app redesign, a bug has appeared. When I press play the next day, the following things can (seemingly randomly) happen:
-
The episode plays for a few seconds, then jumps back a few seconds, and then continues. This isn’t as smooth as it used to be, but it’s acceptable.
-
The episode plays for a few seconds and then stops. I get taken to a screen the “Just Played - Up Next”. Sometimes, both episodes are not even the one I was watching. I then have to navigate back to the season or show, find the correct episode and fast forward to where I left off. This is very frustrating.
-
The episode plays for a few seconds and then suddenly jumps to at the beginning or middle of a (seemingly random) episode. Also very frustrating.
My current workaround is to write down on a paper sticky note which episode and timestamp I was at when I paused Plex, because the app apparently can’t remember that properly anymore.
I have made the attached log right after: opening the ipad, pressing play, and the app stopping after a few seconds and jumping to the beginning of an episode.
Server version: 1.41.7.9823 (latest) on Synology DSM 7.2.2-72806 (latest)
Player version: 2025.17.0 (latest) on iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen with iOS 17.7.8 (latest)
I’ve encountered this issue with every app/server/ios update released since the redesign.
