I see this happen all the time. I’m really curious what the root cause is. I do the plex dance, over and over. Reboot server, move the media to a different hard drive, etc, etc, etc. I remove all meta data from the episode files to be sure it’s not something imbedded there. Nothing makes a difference.

You can see the episode name is wrong, and it has SEASON:EPISODE in the title. That’s completely abnormal to see in an episode.
How does a person fix this? Other than going in, and editing every episode name manually. I shouldn’t have to do that.
I’ve been trying to get this series named correctly for a couple of weeks. So this is not a case where there is something caught in cache.
The show your Plex is matching episodes to is from Britain’s Most Evil Killers Series not Worlds Most. I vaguely remember having a similar issue with those two series but I added that a few years ago already and don’t remember exactly how I fixed it. Try erasing the 2018 in the fix match box and then searching for it.
If that doesn’t work, in the same box click the down arrow by agent and search for the show using the Movie Database instead. One of those things should bring up the right show or both and you can choose.
Well, that fixed it. so that’s part of my issue.
However, the bigger issue at hand here is why is it that when I match to ‘The TVDB’, that the titles don’t match what ‘The TVDB’ website has? If I tell Plex to match to that, where does it really pull that information from?
I’ve had this happen on a few other TV series. I did go back, and match those to ‘The Movie DB’, and that corrected them also.
It just doesn’t make sense though. If I match to ‘The TVDB’, then it should match to that, not come back with random titles.
Take a look in settings → Agents → Shows
There is both a TVDB and Movie Database agent list in there. If you have multiple sources selected I think it acts as a back up to your main choice. The order of the list dictates which sources it tries to pull from first, then moves down the line if it doesn’t match right for some reason.
I’m not sure if this has anything to do with your issue since I seem to have mine set-up in a way that matches most things okay but, like I said, I do remember having a problem with this particular show because the titles are very similar to each other.
It’s confusing and even when it’s set-up right for your needs it can still be glitchy
I recently re-added my media from a different hard drive and I still occasionally find a show and think, “I don’t remember this show, what is this.”. The I realize that it’s a different show that got matched with something random by accident.
If you want a real headache get a bunch of episodes of 20/20 or NOVA. Plex is several seasons off and matches it to totally random episodes. 20/20 matches with episodes for season 44. The only problem with that is there’s only been 43 seasons so far.
Anyway if you know any of this or I’m incorrect about anything I apologize, I"m far from an expert, and knowing this place someone will be along shortly to explain that to me.
Thanks, I definitely appreciate the feedback. I don’t mind if it auto matches to the wrong thing, I check for that kind of error all the time. I understand why that happens.
This one was just really frustrating me, because I kept manually matching it to the right one, and it still was glitching.
Overall it works great, it’s just these occasional glitches that can really get annoying because it otherwise works close to 99% of the time.
