Plex is Ignoring media for TV mini-series Roots (2016) (thetvdb id: 307474)

PMS 1.16.5.1554 on Synology compatible NAS
I have “Roots (1977)” (thetvdb Id: 80280 comprising 8 HD episodes) in my TV Shows library (Period Dramas). Have been attempting to also add “Roots (2016)” (tvdb id: 307474 comprising 4 HD episodes) to the Period Dramas library also without success.
Folders are named /Roots (1977) & /Roots (2016) respectively. Plex completely ignores the existence of the Roots (2016) folder within the /volume1/video/Period Dramas library.

Any suggestions on how to get Plex to add this show so that it is available for playing through the Plex app.

Use of the /video folder is problematic on Synology.

We have found that creating a Television (or TV Series) share (anything you create), works infinitely better.

This is because Synology asserts a strange custom permissions settings & behavior in that share… They will not explain why it’s this way.

I presume your structure is ??

Roots (2016)/
  Season 1/
   Roots (2016) - S01Exx - title

Also, if you renamed it after it was placed and scanned, PMS will not see the change.
You must “Dance” the media:

  1. move to an unmonitored area
  2. scan files
  3. empty trash
  4. clean bundles
  5. move files back
  6. Scan Files

Thanks for your reply ChuckPA. I’m using several different folders within /volume1/video Namely video/movies; video/_TV Series; video/ Period Dramas; video/documentaries; etc, etc.
Will ‘dance’ the media for Roots (2016) and see if that solves my problem.

IF you use Video Station, you’ll really see the conflict. VS will flip permissions one way (your username), Plex needs the other username (plex). Deconfliction is the best resolution in that case.
Strangely, you can have VS index your other shares without issue.

I have never used Video Station. My preference is VLC Player. I use Plex for playing through my Samsung smart tv

Good, then you’re spared that problem.

Finally fixed it:blush:
Wouldn’t resolve even with your suggestions re dancing the media.
I created a new library (/video/mini-series) and put Roots (2016) in that. No go!
So I looked again at renaming the files from Roots.2016.Part1.1080p.BluRay.x264-ROVERS to Roots.2016.Part.S01E01.1080p.BluRay.x264-ROVERS, etc. for all 4 files.

Once that had happened Plex then listed them correctly as Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, & Part 4.

Once accomplished, I moved them back to the Period Dramas library and the mini-series is now showing OK.
Thanks ChuckPA

You’ll find a lot of important info on Naming TV Shows in the Plex articles.
That’s good to hear it works!
