Plex is misidentifying a couple of shows

A couple of recent shows are being misidentified:

  • Miniseries ‘Michael Palin in Venezuela’, misidentified as ‘Michael Palin in NIgeria’
  • ‘The Hack’ (ITV), misidentified as ‘.hack//SIGN’ (a Japanese anime show)

In both cases the posters and episode titles are shown for the wrong show, even though the file titles and folder organization is correct, and the proper titles are as shown on thetvdb.com. It would be good if the UI could just be pointed at the correct TVDB ID, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to do that.

I created two directories in my TV library - “Michael Palin in Venezuela (2025)” & “The Hack (2025)”. I copied a dummy s01e01.mp4 into both and selected TVDB episode ordering under Advanced. Both shows seemed to be correctly identified.

I still wonder what would happen if there were two shows with the same title from the same year,.

Then you add the database ID of either IMDb, TheMovieDB, or THE TVDB to the folder name of each show to disambiguate them from each other.
