Plex is only streaming stuff to my TV in standard definition. How can I fix it?

I use Plex to stream TV show and movies to my TV and am having a problem, as it’s only streaming in standard definition, rather than in HD, as it was normally doing. Does anyone know why it’s doing this and what the fix to it is. I use it with Apple TV and I have the Plex latest update.

Bumping this.

Do you have multiple versions of the same file, each at a different bitrate (one for local, one for remote access, etc)?

You need to provide far more information so that we can help you.

What do you need to know. I don’t use remote access with Plex.

Start by providing the information I requested, please.

No I don’t have multiple versions of the same file. Only 1 of each. I don’t use remote access on Plex.

Not sure what you mean by streaming SD quality. In the client during playback you can select what quality you want. Do you not have original quality available?

I have stuff uploaded on my computer (in 1080p High Definition) and when I watch it streamed to my TV, it’s very obviously in standard definition on my TV, whereas previously it wasn’t and it was in HD quality, as my TV is a 1080p one.

I have the latest version of Plex, but I don’t have the ability to click on ‘original quality’, unless you can specify where it is. For Transcoder > Transcoder quality, I’ve put it on "Prefer higher quality encoding’ for Transcoder quality and where it says Maximum simultaneous video transcode, I’ve clicked on 1.

You’re looking in the server settings - don’t look there. Playback settings are set in the client, ie: the Plex app on your phone.

I went to the Apple TV settings and put it on 1080p, but it didn’t seem to really do anything, as the stuff streamed to my TV still doesn’t look like it’s in HD.

In the Plex client, when you start playback of a movie, you can click the gear icon and select original. That will give you the original quality.
