Plex is rubbish

I wonder how long this topic will last before it gets blocked.

I have paid for Plex and never felt so ripped off!!

Any others feel this way?

Yep. Its riddled with bugs they don’t ever seem interested in fixing, and any attempts here for help result in crickets or “upload your logs” and when you do, also crickets.

I bought pass for Live TV and don’t use it anymore because it’s so broken. There are still transcoder issues on the Android TV client.

Well, I don’t.

But perhaps if you gave some background as to the problem(s) you’ve encountered setting it up the maybe we could help.

I have real issues with the direction Plex has taken over the last few years but I would rate them pretty far up from “rubbish.”

Also, without a LOT more background and details I would never agree with such a foolish statement.

90% of the time Plex problems with failures are the result of something the user did not understand or screwed up. The next 9.9% is actually user errors. The remainder are problems with Plex’s interaction with user’s hardware.

There are problems that exist in Plex’s software from time to time but they are quite minor and do not usually last long.

If you are really so upset then detail what is wrong and, maybe, some will agree.

Lastly if you look around you can find several Plex alternatives that provide all the same features just presented differently. And, maybe, you can use your energy to get an alternative working to your satisfaction rather than being so wasteful by crying here.

As others have said, without actually providing detail, this thread is pointless.

You have been using Plex for 10 years or so ?

WOB is only relevant if you state what the issue(s) are that you have with Plex.

Edit - your post is as useful as your other one here

This thread is indeed a WOB

Specifically, on this comment, no I am certainly not feeling ripped off.

I paid for PlexPass Lifetime years ago. I’ve had a working Plex server for more than 10 years serving up family videos across multiple countries to friends and family to various client devices. No real showstopping issues I can think of.

I’ve also had a working Plex HTPC for local use for media for a decade or so and Plex even resurrected a new HTPC app when most other software companies moved on to streaming. It replaced my XBMC (Kodi) years ago and whilst I have dabbled with other software for that purpose, nothing has come close to functionality and usability.

I’m had issues come up over the years with the software, but the forum has always been able to resolve the issues and in most cases, it was my fault

The software is by no means perfect, and I don’t necessarily agree all the time with the direction Plex has taken. I also miss a few features I would like. However, overall, Plex (server and client software) has definitely not been a rip off.

I use Plex everyday and it works for me. The only current problems I have are with Tidal support which is frustrating but I wouldn’t say they are rubbish.

Hi all,

Firstly the reason I created this topic is because i paid for lifetime pass I cannot use is that not a good reason?

Lets start with how NOT private Plex is, does anyone realise that Plex can look at all your media so asking for help if you have problems is off putting.

All I needed was a private Plex media server but as far as I know this is not possible.

And you know that for certain because… ?

I’ve had a lifetime pass for five years. PLEX does everything I absolutely need it to do and TONS of stuff I don’t need so I turn all that off. Yeah, it may crash once a week so I restart the server. My lifetime pass cost me $75 so for that, I can afford to reboot a computer once in a while.

Why can’t you use it ?

Have you ever used it in the more than 10 years you have had a PlexPass ?

Assuming what you said about Plex is true (which I challenge), did you ask this question 10 years ago before you purchased a lifetime PlexPass ?

Nope
Your comment is devoid of any detail

I have had Plex for years and I have a life time pass. It has been very reliable for me. I don’t even remember when I had to restart the Plex server due to it crashing. I do restart my Unraid NAS Server usually once every couple of months and is normally do to my Windows VM updates and my Cable Card that it runs won’t reset so I have to restart the NAS to restore the card so I get my live TV back. I use a Ceton tuner card with a proxy server so Plex sees the tuner. No issues with recording or the comskip. No issues playing any of my movies including 4K. I can transcode a 4K video down to 1080p with no issues but I normally add an 1080p optimized version of the 4K video for remote viewing or non 4K TVs I have.

Most issues I have had in the passed when I first started was due to hardware issues or OS issues. Once I started using Plex on my built Unraid NAS server and got an Invidia Shield Pro all my issues went away. I do still use the TV Plex Client on 3 of my TVs and still don’t have issues but don’t use them a whole lot.

So Plex having sync problems on the Apple TV for almost four years is a “minor” problem? And user’s fault?

I can tell you that watching the thing out of sync for so long is VERY frustrating.

LOL, I’m still on an ancient 1080P ATV and no sync issues at all

BeattifulCadaver did say however

problems with Plex’s interaction with user’s hardware.

1080p has as well sync problems on the ATV, but not as common as 4K.

Plex’ White Knights are funny, basically everything runs on hardware so everything falls under this category.

I could somehow understand the difficulties on the server side with the wide variation of hardware and OS combinations, but we are talking here about the client side, and it is the Apple TV, more standard can’t be.

No idea what Plex White Knights are but I agree, this thread is pointless.

Sooooo disappointed with Plex. Like many here I’ve with plex from the beginning and yes it wasn’t always perfect but I made it work for me and the family. Recently while I was on vacation someone hacked my account. I understand that they hacked my account using my credentials granted. But plex sent me an email while I’m on vacation expecting me to respond and because i didn’t noticed on time, they told me i lost the account I paid for and there’s absolutely nothing I can do about out. The only thing that plays in my head that Plex just wanted me to lose the lifetime account I was grandfathered in. Very disappointed that I had to jump through hoops and stand by my emails while the hacker had full access and did not have to verify anything. Enjoy my account
hacker in china a place I never visited in my life. SMH.

Whenever I have heard of a Plex account being hacked it has always been resolved by contacting billing and simply following the instructions, that may include some purchase info, and they are always successfully recovered. At least as far as I know. If there are instances where Plex did not resolve the issue I never heard about it either here or the other places I frequent. I do not see everything but I doubt I would have missed issues like that unless they were so few in numbers that it slipped my notice.

There are LOTS of things Plex does that I really don’t much like but I would consider what is described as theft and Plex does not need to steal and they are poorly served by not responding to theft when it occurs.

I’ll bite! A “Plex White Knight” is the antithesis of what I like to think of as the “Plex Irascible Malcontent.” Where the former would tend to find the good in Plex’s functionality and performance and extoll its virtues, the latter is quick to fault any feature which does not perform well for them and express that failing in an, often, angry manner.

My experience is that the two generally find little common ground. Where the Irascible Malcontent would like to vent spleen, the White Knight would like to correct what they believe are misconceptions. The Irascible Malcontent often fails to support their initial comment with anything substantive and becomes defensive when it is suggested that they provide more details on their issue(s) so that it can be addressed.

It is also my experience that the Irascible Malcontent generally labels anyone who doesn’t agree with them as a White Knight, even if there is a reasonable argument presented in support of the facts that they presented.

All of this is very tongue-in-cheek of course. People would never act irrationally on an Internet forum, after all.
