PLEX is running amok...multiple changes

Server Version#: 1.22.3.4392
Player Version#:
PLEX has been giving me multiple problems for months and I’m not techie enough to deal with it myself. I have my settings to update any library if I make a change…it used to that instantly…now it doesn’t react at all. I run PLEX via my ROKU. Plex usually opens with the splash page logo that splits inself to the edges as the program opens…it doesn’t do that now. If I delete an episode of a TV library it often does not delete, and if I delete an entire season of episodes, the season’s original poster remains. If I open the season and try to play an episode that is still listed I will get the “file no available” - so PLEX knows the season is gone but it is still showing it to me. I also get the muptile duplicate files when I check I find that there is no duplicate. It’s as if PLEX is running on its own direction, not mine.

Other streaming channels running on ROKU all run fine. Another habit that has become regular is that if I create a new library for a show and put the files in place, PLEX sometime picks all of them properly but sometimes it will pick up 4 of 6 seasons and they are all labeled exactly the same! I also get the start/stop of shows at random.

I don’t even know how to begin to “normalize” PLEX. I’ll be more that grateful to supply requested information and run any procedures if only someone would please help.

Check the free space on the drive which houses the Plex data folder.
You need plenty there, at least a few Gb’s.
Default location is C:, unless you have moved it to a different drive.

Check your Plex database file for damage:

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.

Thanks so much for your reply, OttoKerner. Because of some things I learned from you on an earlier problem, I remembered where to find the Plex Media Server files and found the Debug settings. I’m working on a backup now and will forward it to you in the morning. Regards, Thomas
