Plex is telling me my program Guide is empty

@brad2723 SonLife was returning null data from Gracenote. Essentially if one channel returns a null value it breaks EPG for the DVR. I would venture to guess it has something to due with the way Gracenote’s API works but it could also be bad error checking on Plex’s part.

After the upgrade to version 1.9.5.4339 I had the same issue. My EPG guide was empty. I tried to downgrade to the previous version but that didn’t work well.

I upgraded back to the latest version. Tried deselecting some channels and nothing helped. Today I tried it again and it’s working surprisingly. I changed nothing on my setup nor the server configuration. It is running on windows.

Maybe it helps someone if I provide my server logs.

I suspect you were right. I see @StSimm1 latest build (.4401) has corrected this. Ironically it still didn’t fix it for me. It wasn’t until I completely removed my DVR and added it back in that it finally corrected it. And with all of the channels nonetheless including SONLIFE. In any event, i’m glad this ordeal is over.

This problem popped up for me today. Running PMS 1.9.6.4401. Program guide is empty, and under “Manage Channels” the dropdown boxes under “Guide Channels” are all empty.

Edit: I found a solution that fixed it for me. I hit “Delete DVR”, which keeps your shows (and remembers the shows you want to record) but removes all of the guide data. Then I re-added the HDHomerun, reselected the channels, and it downloaded everything. I had to select Comcast as my provider even though we record over the air, but the channels match up.

I just installed and found out how amazing this was, updated today and the digital antenna broadcast is gone, only a few independent channels now. I can switch to comcast but the channels are not the same and it will take me a while to match them all up. What happned to digital antenna broadcast channels, Worked perfectly yesterday until the update, very sad plex, this is turning into a headache.

(never mind – I’m an idiot)

This happened to me today - only realised when I went to check a series that’s on ever day. It’s taken the series link with it

Deleting my DVR and recreating it fixed it for me and my reoccurring recordings came back

Having the same issue with my setup. Update doesn’t even get past initializing. Retrying while posting this comment asnd it looks like it is now stuck at 3%. Looks like I am going to have to take the route of deleting and re-adding myself:

Plex Version 1.11.2.4772 on Windows 10:
(2) HDHomerun Prime

Found a work around from a Facebook group

Here we go again, Yup same problem here. I watched Live TV early yesterday morning and all was fine, Came home after work last night and BAM no Live TV. All I can say is this is getting old, Thank god I have not returned our cable boxes yet. We did however discontinue our 20.00 a month DVR service, If that brakes its not the end of the world but Live TV??? Thats another story… I would of thought after last time back in October Plex would of built-in some kind of cache on the server that would hold the last recent guide data so if the update fails it does not bring our whole Live TV down???

@Kiepert,
You are a life saver my friend, Thanks for the workaround. It worked like a charm and my guide data is coming back as I type this message… Hey Plex devs, We need some kind of cache on the server or better yet, Our Live TV working should not be based on if we get updated guide data. For this to become main stream and replace the STB’s in my house this needs to be fixed please…

Still happening. EPG not refreshing. Tried forcing refreshing the program guide and getting 0 downloaded programs.
Tried deleting/readding the DVR two weeks ago, which worked, but for only 2 weeks. Now may need to do that again?

Running Windows 10 - Plex Server Version 1.11.3.4803

This solved the issue for me. Thanks!

That worked for me as well. TBH right now the DVR functionality is downright horrible. Its unreliable and I keep needing to come back to the forums to find fixes for all the issues with the guide not refreshing. Not to mention trying to find shows to actually watch with the guide they have is down right infuriating at times. They really need to do a ton of work on this for it to even be remotely viable or else they might as well just remove the feature.

I’m willing to subscribe to SchedulesDirect if I can find a way to get Plex to read it. Not ideal, but it would buy the Plex developers some time to figure out the problem.

These problems are disconcerting to say the least.

Could do with some logs from the server when the EPG refresh fails

At the moment there is an issue being investigated where there are 600 or so channels affecting the EPG refresh

Ensure you are running the latest release 1.11.3.4803 is the current version
and ensure debug logging enabled beforehand

Since my EPG would run out tomorrow morning, I had to execute vinceanido’s protocol. Seems to work for Windows as well
(files found in c:\Users"User Account"\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-In Support\Databases). Thanks VinceAnido.

Errors like this

are currently being looked into and they are arising for users with large number of channels - about 600 channels

For anyone getting this issue - please provide logs and also see if the symptom is the same on other plex client apps

Need to establish if it is a plex client app giving empty EPG or it is a server issue - like the one seen for users with 600 or so channels
