Plex Keeps Crashing After latest Update

Server Version#:ESW744 latest update
Player Version#:latest update for Synology
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

Plex keeps crashing after I upload or replace movies / tv shows. It keeps going from open to run every time. Also even when I don’t upload or replace, when the system does its nightly updates at 2am it will crash again. This happens every evening since the latest update.

After the latest update Plex keeps crashing, going from Run to Open. At first i thought it was only every time i upload, replace or rename a file. But I gave it a brake from any changes and it keeps doing the same thing, less but still does it. it definitely kicks me off when it does it’s updates in the middle of the night and at random times through the day. Now I’ve never had any issues replacing my files before or renaming them, but now every time i do, within minutes it switches from Open to Run and i have to click Run to be able to keep watching. Please fix this bug or inform me of what i can do.

Without logs people are going to have to guess.

Database Corruption.

As @pl_5309 mentions, a set of server log files are needed to help diagnose what is happening.

Please do the following:

  1. Stop Plex Media Server and wait 20 seconds.
  2. Start Plex Media Server
  3. Wait three minutes for Plex to fully start and log the startup sequence
  4. Re-create the problem - Plex crashing
  5. Re-start Plex Media Server
  6. Download the server log files (Settings → Troubleshooting)
  7. Post the zip file (drag into the message window and wait for it to upload)

In my experience, Plex crashing is most often caused by malformed/damaged video files.

You would need to verify each video file by playing it in VLC or Windows Media Player, skipping through the entire file.

I’m not aware of any programs that can check a video file for errors etc.

You could also try re-encoding the video files using Handbrake or similar or simply replace them with known good files.

Check your Plex Media Scanner Analysis logs for errors showing which files you should target.

Once you have removed/corrected the bad files, your server should stop crashing.

You should probably uninstall Plex and use a freshly downloaded installer package to re-install Plex with.

That would eliminate a bad installation or damaged installer package as the problem.

Logs are always welcome though.
