Plex keeps crashing/closing

Plex stopped again

Looked at the 29th May crash - was related to running out of memory

Servers owned by the following shared users were requesting metadata for your massive libraries:

Minixxxng
anchxxxxaway
Michxxx boxxxen
Hoxxx Clxxxk
garrxxx3
jclxxxey
PlexMxxxxxTxm
flynhaxxxxan5
Draxxx08
Fillxxxx67
jacobxxxxxnda
Travxxx0

So again - either remove access for the users or split your massive libraries into smaller libraries - until the fix is available

Plex stopped again

Thank you for the reply. I’ll remove the users tomorrow.

If I doubled my RAM from 32 GB to 64 GB would this resolve the memory issue.

Since my libraries are so massive and still growing, do you have any suggestions how I can reduce/split my libraries?

Thank you,

No

32-bit apps are limited to 2Gb RAM. When we have a 64-bit release of Plex Media Server then that would help as the 2Gb cap would no longer apply

Up to you

You could go by title - having say 2000 in each library
Or by Genre or by decade / years but that would be more complicated

Or just do not share your server with users that have their own servers until the fix is available

I have removed the users specified. It’s a shame Plex has not been released as a 64-bit release since this would give it more memory access.

From now on before I add a new user, I’ll ask them if they have a Plex Server and if so, will ask them to provide me an email account not connected to the Plex server so we will not have this issue until the memory issue has been resolved.

Next time I send you the files again, can you let me know who has a plex server and I’ll remove them as I have been doing so Plex will continue to run.

My Movies take 78 TB and my TV Shows take 150 TB and are spread over multiple drives. It would take too much time to split my movies into library’s of 2,000.

Thank you,

I was on the server when it stopped responding, so I took a before closing Plex and after. Maybe this will give you some more data.

Thank you

OK will have a look tomorrow. I will have some builds with fix to be tried out. I will send you private message

Updated Plex to Version 1.27.0.5849 this morning. Stopped responding a couple of hours later.

Please let me know the users who have Plex servers and I will remove them.

Any ETA when Plex will be releasing a 64-bit version?

Thank you

Did you see the private message I sent you earlier today ?

I have attached my Plex database.

I have sent an email to one of the people who I have disabled and I’ll have to wait for there response. Do they send the database to me and then I forward it to you or can they send it directly to you.

A majority of the people who have access to my Server are people I don’t know. When my server is below 100 users, I send an invite to a Facebook sight called ‘Plex Free Share 4 Share’ and add the people who respond to my message to my server until my server is full. The people I know don’t have a Plex server.

I called my doctor and said, “Doc, I’ve broken my arm in two places! What should I do?”
The doc told me, “First, stop going to those places.”

Thanks for joining into the conversation. As you know I have been building the media server for the past 7 years and have all this content. It just seems a shame not the share it to as many people as I can. I didn’t think this would cause Plex to crash/stop responding which is why I have been in contact with you. If you would like access, please let me know and i’ll send you and invite, however not an email linked to your Plex server…

Thank you,

I’m probably too sarcastic for my own good, and I like dumb jokes. I couldn’t resist. I laughed again at your “not an email linked to your Plex server…”, haha.

It sounds like you’re tickling a genuine Plex bug, and I’m glad that’s getting the right attention from the absolute best Plex folks.

It’s not that I don’t want to share Plex with you, the issue is due to the size of my server, when it is connected to another Plex server, it causes a memory issue and Plex stops responding. If you send me an email address not linked to your Plex Server, I’ll send you an invite…

The problem is Windows. Get rid of Windows.

easier said than done…

Thank you - no aggregation of external media found in your database. I believe we only do that if there is music library. The databases of interest would be ones for the users you shared your server with and were sending the requests that crashed your server

I am sorry but I have to flag that as possible infringement of the terms

Is there any update on this issue?

My Plex Server are crashing on a daily basis and have been for several months now. I keep hoping each update will fix the issue but so far it has not.

There may be various causes for crashes and each would need to be investigated

I do not see any uploaded crash reports for your account

I would like to see debug server logs and crash dumps - if crash reporting is not disabled on the server then there will be an attempt to upload the crash report - but this process does not always succeed. A copy of the report is saved into %TEMP% directory and you could look for the file as it would have been created at the time of the crash

In some cases - like when there is insufficient memory - the crash reports may not get created successfully - it may also arise on some heap corruption or stack overrun crashes - For such cases there is a registry edit that can be made to get windows to create the dump files - see https://support.plex.tv/articles/201455336-crash-logs-plex-media-server/

To start would need to see debug server logs captured after the crashes

Upgraded from 1.26.0.5715 to 1.27.0.5897 and started having deadlocks.

Upgraded once more to 1.27.1.5916, still got deadlocks.

Tried downgrading to 1.26.0.5715 and “Updating library…” went on for a good 10-15 minutes. After that all my libraries are empty.

Went ahead and upgraded to 1.27.1.5916 again and libraries are back, and deadlocks too ofcourse. Went through the whole repair database dance and there is no issues with it.

Any version I can downgrade to that doesn’t screw up the libraries?

Got logs (no dump) and can send by PM if possible.
