Plex Keeps Crashing

Mine is crashing after a few minutes of starting. I have documented logs in this thread: Plex server keeps crashing - #6 by clearheatvision

Hi @tom80H
Are you seeing the reports from others re Win 10 PMS crashing continuously? PMS is completely unusable for us suffering the issue at the moment. We would love to know if this is being looked into by the support/devs?
G.

asking around… I haven’t seen a much beyond this post and the ones linked here. So not sure it’s a widespread issue or some specific configuration.

Thanks Tom. Look fwd to anything you can offer.

FYI: After my initial start up of v1.21.2.3939 (after downgrading) crashed after a couple of minutes running, I did a reboot and PMS has now been running for about 20 minutes without crashing and 1 TV show has been watched. We’ll see how it goes…

Given your Plex Media Server is running on a WIFI-only connection… could you try to reboot your router to check if there’s some hiccup/roadbump that might interfere with Plex?
Not sure this is related but it’ll be worth a shot.

Update: PMS had been running for 3 hours with little to no load from clients. Decided to give it a little bit to do. Was running 1x PlexAmp, 1x Firefox TV show and 1x Edge movie on my workstation, and it lasted about 5 minutes before PMS crashed :frowning:

It seems that PMS will continue to crash almost immediately if you restart it after the first crash. But if you reboot Windows, PMS seems to last a lot longer.

Update2: Scratch that. PMS crashed almost immediately after the reboot this time. Geesssss…

Logs attached.

Thanks for all the logs - I managed to locate one crash report for Feb 9th 10:03:24 which corresponded to logs in this zip

Could you download the Plex Media Server database zip (through Help and Support) and send me the zip by Private Message. If too big to attach, please upload to google drive/dropbox etc and send me a link

Thanks for the logs. I have located some crash dumps. This has been referred to our development team

Thanks for looking into this sa2000.
Trying to get the db zip for you, but the process seems to fail. Should it eventually come up with a typical ‘file download’ dialog? I don’t get one. Where is the zip file created?

I see some large file sizes in the Databases folder:

well - with a 6Gb db file - it may take a very long time or timeout.

Thanks for zipping it manually

So, following on from my earlier post everything is far from fine - I am still having to restart Plex several times a day at the moment.

Hi @sa2000 - has there been any update from the dev’s on this issue? Did my db help find the issue? Do you need anything else from me to help debugging?

Ive been running PMS version 1.21.2.3939 for a few days now and it has been stable. However, today, when I manually scan my TV Shows library to add new episodes (PMS hasn’t picked them up itself) PMS crashes.

Logs: Plex Media Server Logs_2021-02-16_13-06-08.zip (3.1 MB)

It is the same crash.

The crashes are due to data in one of the database tables. I am waiting to hear from the development team

How can I tell? PMS suddenly closes - so it looks the same to me. The logs never tell me anything useful so I don’t really know.

Having the same issue using unraid and docker for plex. Latest PMS BETA.

Version 1.21.4.4054

I have reduced the size of my database (down from 6.5GB to 650MB). I am away from home for the next 5 days, so will leave PMS running on v1.21.2.3939 until I get back.

So, for me the server crashes every time some tries to access Plex from the Plex app on an amazon fire stick. All other clients are iOS or Mac OS and they seem to work fine. If I restart the Plex server Ince the crash occurs then the fire tv will work fine in terms of accessing and playing content - it’s only when a user first signs in on the fire stick that causes the server to crash.

I can see a number of crash reports uploaded from your server - last successful upload at Feb 26, 2021 20:55 UTC

The cause of these specific crashes has been identified and a fix produced and will be released shortly

This is great news - although after upgrading to the latest release (still crashes) I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Fire TV plex client application. This seems to have solved the issue as I haven’t had to restart plex since then - it has been running very well.
