I don’t understand any of this…
what modem/router do you have? I’ll look for the doc if I can find it. There will be a make & model number
Putty goes on your computer. You won’t need it for PMS.
Your modem/router probably has a Web interface so only your browser should be needed
netgear C6900 router/modem bridged to an Orbi system
also, I downloaded putty, but I don’t see anywhere to ‘login’ as user ‘admin’…
I think I found how to login, but when I put in the password, it says access denied…
let’s slow down a sec and figure out the architecture.
- Which one actually connects directly to the internet?
- Not to challenge but do you know what it means to be ‘bridged’ to another modem/router?
- Orbi looks like a WiFi AP, not a modem/ router. Please confirm
cable comes into the house and attaches to the Netgear. Netgear is in ‘Bridge’ mode. Orbi is attached to the Netgear. Orbi is what I use throughout the house.
Not sure what Orbi is… might be an AP
finally got putty to work… turned on PMS, went to claim server… nothing
also keeps telling me to update… and I have, twice…???
Slow down a bit please? I am trying to balance my coverage of the forum.
- You won’t need putty for any of this at this point. Once PMS is able to run in some form on Synology, Putty/SSH is no longer needed.
- Your browser is all that’s needed to configure and maintain your netgear equipment.
Please confirm:
The C6900 is in RFC-1483 Transparent bridge mode and the Orbi is handling all authentication with your ISP.
If this is not the case, and both have routing functions enabled, this constitutes Double NAT. Double NAT prevents Remote Access. PMS can’t automatically negotiate its way through such a configuration.
i have only seen one option on the C6900…“Do you wish to use this a router?” and i clicked ‘No’
that’s all i have seen in the menu’s for the C6900
Does your other Netgear contain the username / password authentication needed for your ISP or is there some other device in the loop?
Also, regarding the “Claiming”. This method will probably be easier to do.
- Control Panel - Shared Folders - Edit the Plex share
- Permissions Tab - Give your username “R/W” permission
- OK that change
- Open File Station and navigate to how I show here.
- Right click on Library → Properties.
- Make certain the owner is
plexand `Apply to this folder, sub folders and files’ is checked. - Ok that and let it do it’s thing.
- Restart PMS
well, i followed your instructions… still wont claim the server…
there is nothing else in the loop. it is exactly as i explained above.
I have no idea if there is a user name/password somewhere that needs to be identified.
The only things which can prevent claiming are browser and permissions.
Browser plug-ins mess with credentials. I can’t help there. that’s on you unfortunately.
Permissions are resolved.
As for your internet, Who setup the configuration you have now? The ISP ?
i don’t have any plug-ins that i am aware of.
Yes, when i plugged in the orbi, it asked if i wanted to use their recommendations and i said yes.
At this point, I need to see the PMS log files. I can’t proceed without them.
I also don’t have any information or exposure to netgear equipment . Getting it all configured is ultimately your responsibility. We help where we can but netgear are the ones who should be supporting you in that part of the connectivity task. For us, it’s pretty far out of scope
we might as well discontinue this then. if you say its on me, and i haven’t done anything…
plus, even if we solve the router issue, it doesn’t let me use plex even on my own network.
Thanks Chuck, but i have wasted 20 hours on this last time, and whatever hours on it this time (with you, appreciated!), but this seems to have been a waste of both our times. I appreciate the help. its too bad that it couldn’t be resolved
trumpy, i just didn’t want to waste your time any further. We didn’t have to end it on an insulting note. I do appreciate your help. Thank you
Gentlemen,
If I may?
Please excuse my action but I think it best to end this now.
