I have just about had it. No, I have had it and I am giving up on Plex. I have spent 20 hours combing thru the stupid forums to find an answer to why I cant find a solution to not being able to remote connect to my server and all I did by following all the assorted ‘help’ was to f-up my situation further. Now I cant even find my server. Thanks for providing no personal support…
While I’m not a Synology user, try this method to see if it helps; If you recently changed/rebooted router equipment, the 32400 port may need to be reconfigured on router. Depending on your router setup, look for “Port Forwarding”. Create a forwarding port for 32400 pointing to the correct NAS reserved IP. If your Synology is currently 192.168.1.2, maybe before it was say 192.168.1.3.
For my setup, because we have alot of devices, I reserved/assigned an IP for each of my devices to better manage my network. Otherwise, each time I reboot my router, the IP address will change. I don’t know enough about your setup or situation to give a definite answer/solution.
I hope this makes some sense and it works. Sounds like that’s the case but I’m not sure. I understand you’re frustrated but bare with everyone as hopefully a Ninja or someone with Synology knowledge can assist.
Although I am on holiday, I saw your comment and would like to point out.
The other times you asked for help , this being an example: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/266369/cant-find-synology-server
you received help.
All you need do is ask and we are here.
I’m sure @trumpy81 will be more than happy to help you until my return.
If you have decided to stop using Plex, I wish you the best but it’s not because you didn’t get help when you asked for it.
Goenham, your answer calmed me down quite a bit. Normally it is a plethora of horrible answers on forums that makes me think my initial question wasn’t even read properly.
This time I guess I was so frustrated I went straight to idiot myself…
I will look into what you suggested after a little ‘dry’ time so I regain my composure.
thanks for your patience and your support, sorry for my attitude!
ChuckPA,
As much as I appreciate you bouncing the ball back into my court, and I agree, that I jumped the gun from frustration, I have not seen a forum based support platform that hasn’t been anything but a cheap way to opt out of providing direct customer service.
Especially if I have a private concern that I would want to bring up with support directly, not hundreds of folks who usually provide numerous condescending answers to wade thru…
Enjoy your vacation. Sorry I bothered you. I will happily bring my issue to trumpy81 if he is ok with that.
Thank you for your help.
Thank you for replying.
I cannot speak to other forums but a great deal of pride is put in the forum here. I am responsible for the Linux forum and largely the Synology & QNAP forums. Trumpy and other Ninjas help me with the NAS forums. There is quite a team here.
It is our (Plex) policy, should you have a private matter and wish to keep it out of the general forum, Private Message is always available.
We only ask that people wait until we agree otherwise we’d be flooded with the same questions over and over. Providing support from the confines of the PM system is extremely difficult and limited.
Plex doesn’t have a call center, like the big companies, where calls come in and then routed out to us wherever we are; but like those companies, the majority of us are in different geographic locations, in different time zones, in order to provide nearly 24/7 coverage.
So I will get to the meat of the issue…
I use an xfinity router in bridge to a Orbi mesh network as the AP. Plex has worked fine for the past year or so until 4 days ago. Then, after I made an update, it went down and would not see the NAS (Synology DS2415+). I read copious amounts of ‘what to do’ in the forum which didnt help and finally just got so frustrated I deleted every thing and started from scratch. Everything seemed to go really well. Here is where I really messed up:
I did some reading on the forum about port forwarding and attempted to try it because after I started from scratch I could get to the NAS, but not outside my local network.
I clicked the box in Plex settings to do port forwarding, and next thing I know, I am completely locked out of my NAS…again.
I have a Roku tv and it still plays everything perfectly from my NAS using the Plex app. I can access my NAS directly with no issues. But on all my computers (using Windows 10) I cant do anything to get Plex to access my NAS. It continually tells me that my NAS is not accessible.
Thoughts?

I am new here and I would like to say that the forums have been a great help to me, yes there are allot info that I had to wade through but for most part coming from a Boxee box I have been able to decide on a NAS (which I am now using the Synology) and worked out any trouble/issues I have had with Plex installation, setup, and playback. Thank you for the support even though it is only forum based.
this is where you lost me…
"When that is done then you need to setup remote access in Plex settings > server > remote access > Show Advanced. Enable ‘Manually specify public port’ and leave it set to 32400, click apply then click on ‘Save Changes’."
I cant access anything on my NAS from Plex. Nothing. Keeps saying it will look for a NAS, and never finds it…
So… it worked and now i can see my NAS from plex! yea! (one strange thing, plex wasn’t showing at first on the NAS, i had to allow read/write again in permissions to see it. How did that get changed?)
But…i still cant seem to get remote access yet.
Does this have any impact? = On NAS, DHCP Server, under Network Interface, LAN 1 is disabled. I could have sworn that previously that was enabled…??
What more can i do to obtain Remote Access?
Thanks!
I know I am in a Double NAT position, but the 1st router is in Bridge…
oh, and now that Plex works on my computers, it no longer works on my Roku TVs…

If you have two routers and one of them is in bridge mode, you do not have a double NAT situation.
I’m back for a short period today (until family arrives). I’ll be in the office full time tomorrow.
Anything I can help with on the quick?
There would be no need for “personal” support if there was a proper User Guide.
I am in similar situation. So far I can only find where I can search for answers, but none of the responses are relevant.
trumpy81, could you help me again?
I tried to go back thru and follow your instructions again… but I am doing something wrong.
I had to unhook the Orbi system, and I just put it back on and cant find My plex again.
I am not having the same issue as last time… but all the same, it just keeps searching for my NAS and cant find it…
I can run plex, but it cant find my NAS…
Are both on the same subnet / mask?
IF not the same subnet then broadcast packets (SSDP) won’t work and , if installing PMS, you won’t be able to authenticate because of PMS default security.
Also keep in mind PMS enforces RFC1918 addressing requirements
Hi Chuck,
Thank you for helping.
All of that was greek…
could you explain in a little more detail?
where do I look to see if they are on the same subnet/mask?
the network configuration on both computer and the NAS
In there you will see the IP address and the NETMASK.
If you can share those I’ll verify for you
