So this does not happen to every folder/show in this library.
I have a folder/Library called Lottery Dreams. It is setup like TV Content. With different folders/shows, and different sub-folders/seasons. Each file is named like a tv show, starting with S01EXX and then a name I’ll recognize.
Some folders/shows in this library work as designed. I name each video. In the case of Dream Boats, I would upload a file like S01E01 - Sportsman 352.mp4 to Lottery Dreams/Dream Boats/Season 1/ and it shows up fine. I then manually rename it to Sportsman 352 inside the Plex Web App and then on any player it shows that name when browsing.
Other folders like my Dream Cars folder does not work as designed. It is setup exactly the same just named differently. Any time I add a new file to that folder/season every file in it loses the manually applied NAME field contents. But the SORT NAME field stays what I set it to.
This is annoying because I do not want to rely on the thumbnail to figure out which dream car I want to drool over. This is also happening with other folders in the same library, but not all of them. Dream Homes, Dream Boats both remember the manually set names when I add new content. Dream Cars and Dream Hotels do not. As far as I can tell all the settings are the same for them.
I only have one season in each category so I have not tested if creating a new season will change the behavior.
I do have the Yellowish Orange Pad Lock ON before saving/closing the naming whindow for each video in the Plex web client.
Which metadata agent is selected in the properties of this library?
Do you exclusively use .mp4 files?
Have you checked them for embedded metadata?
With “custom” series like this, you might wanna exploit embedded metadata.
On these files, yes. I went and right clicked on the file, selected properties, details, and entered what I want the name to be in the TITLE field. Then rescanned the library. No change. In Plex I also selected refresh metadata. No change. Still says Episode 1, Episode 2, etc.
Two of the files have now updated and show the name. I will get back to you in the next day or two and let you know if the rest continue to update and if adding a new file causes the same issue still.
All but one file has updated. Removing, slightly renaming the file. Deleting what is on the server. Replacing it. That helped cause the files to update. It seems to be remembering old metadata info for the files.
