Plex Live TV & DVR no longer shows current shows in "What's on"

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#:2.47

This is my first post, so I hope I’m doing it correctly. I hope there’s an easy fix for this, because I feel like I’m losing my mind. I run Plex Media Player on a Mac Mini, and for some odd reason, I no longer see current listings under “What’s On.” It only shows “Starting Soon.” Is there a setting some where that I need to fix? I just updated to 2.47 from 2.46. I also recently updated my Plex Media Server to the latest version. I can’t remember exactly where the problem started in the midst of all that, but I can’t find a solution to save my soul … or my mind. Please help:-) I’m not uber technical, so type slowing and use small words. Thanks.

I suspect the issue is with the beta release of the Plex Media Server (v.1.18.4). I’ve seen others report this same issue with different clients but same server.

Also, I’m still running v.1.18.3 and I don’t have this issue on any client, including the desktop app for Mac.

Thanks for the quick reply. That could be the culprit. I did update my media server as part of all this. I may see if I can go back to the previous version. It’s really irritating to always see what’s coming but never see it arrive. LOL.

Sorry, this really did make me LOL! If you’re able to downgrade, let us know how it goes.

I think this is a bigger bug. I have the PC and on the public and beta version If you go to browse and do some browsing you loose the option on the top. No guide, no dvr nothing. You clear cache and cookies and still broken. Switch to a new browser and it is fine until you go back to browse and start using it. So The question to ask is where can I get 2 public old version to test and see if it is a bug.

You’re describing a different issue. See this thread for more information:

Well, the good news is that my problem disappeared as mysteriously as it arrived. My “Shows on Now” row under “What’s On” now shows currently airing episodes with their remaining time, so I can watch live shows again. However (there’s always a “however” LOL), I can now only view 11 of the 20 channels I receive in that row. The “More” box at the end of the row vanished, so there’s no way to access them through Plex Media Player. I updated to 2.48, but it didn’t solve anything.Does anybody know a fix for that? Thanks in advance for your troubles.

Same issue here. The plex live tv and pvr has been a disappointment since I tried to go to it as my main option. How is it that Window Media Center from 15 years ago still functions better? I can only assume plex does not see live tv and pvr as an important piece.

Emby?

On Plex Media Player? What version and what OS?

Is this a recent development for you guys, too? Mine actually worked fine until a week or three ago. I still have a working version of EyeTV software, so I’ve resorted to using that temporarily for live TV. I hope this gets fixed. I don’t know why the company that bought EyeTV let it die on the vine. It was THE solution for cord-cutting Mac users. But Plex does a lot of nice things, and I love the commercial removal feature. Hopefully this new problem will self-resolve and all will soon be as it was. If anyone hits on a solution though, please share.

Yes, PMP. version 2.49.0.1041-bf8608f7 (I always update when prompted). Windows 10 Pro.

For example right now, when I got to live tv, shows on has 15 choices, but no more button at the end

However, since I have 30+ channels, there are half missing and there doesn’t appear to be a way to tune into the missing channels.

I have to go either to the web or plex windows app to go to these channels.

Is this the strategy of keeping PMP alive, make it so buggy that eventually we will all quit it?

This is just a shot in the dark, you could try rolling back to PMS version 1.18.3 to see if that helps. This may be related to the server upgrade and the app hasn’t been updated for the newer server version.

Does Plex archive older versions of PMS? I haven’t been able to find one. I updated to the latest beta the other night hoping that might solve the problem, but no dice. Thanks for your advice.

See these instructions on how to find previous versions in your Update folder.

Doh! Sorry. I should have said that I’m on a Mac. I hope there’s a similar option. This particular Mac isn’t on Time Machine. Because that would have been too easy. LOL.

It’s very similar  Let me know if you can’t find the Update folder.

OK. I’ll see what I can find. I imagine it’s hidden in the Library folder somewhere. Thanks.

Found it. (Woo-hoo!) Now I just have to perform the downgrade without losing any of my personal data — and with it, what’s left of my mind. LOL.

Can you give these instructions from paulkeeley in 2016 a quick review and see if they still sound right? (OSX Rollback Update)

Go to ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Updates (if your home library folder is hidden, go to Finder->Go->Go To Folder… and enter the full path).
There you’ll see a list of folders with various version names. Within each version folder there will be a folder called “packages”, containing a manifest file and a zip.
Copy the zip somewhere (ie, a temp folder) and decompress it. You’ll be left with a folder called “Contents”.
Find the Plex Media Server.app file in your Applications folder, right click it and select “show contents”.
Delete the Contents folder within the app, and copy the newly unzipped Contents folder there instead.
Run the application.

That doesn’t sound too bad, unless there’s a simpler way. My main concern is making sure that I don’t wipe out all of the manual data I’ve entered for personal media files over the years. I figure I’ll make a copy of both of these folders first to make sure I have my data and preferences.

     ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/
     ~/Library/Preferences/com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist

Is that all I will need if the digital manure hits the proverbial fan? If you have any other tips/advice/instructions please let me know.

Thanks again for all of your help. I really hope this does the trick.

Hey. I just wanted to say “thanks”! I went ahead and downgraded my Plex Media Server like you suggested, and it did the trick. The “More” box at the end of my “On Right Now” row has returned! Along with my sanity! Thanks! I may never upgrade again. LOL.
