I’ve recently started adding posters to my library because the new Plex Agent doesn’t seem to do a good job of automatically selecting consistent poster art for collections, unlike TMDB Agent did.
Upon reading the instructions for naming here, it says to name posters as “MovieName (Release Date).ext”. The issue is if the movie’s filename includes “Optional_Info” as found here, then you also must include that in the poster’s filename, or it won’t detect it.
I’m not 100% sure if this is a bug or not. But I’d guess it is considering the instructions don’t tell you to make sure you include optional info in the filename. It also complicates things if you have multiple movie versions with different optional info in each filename because you don’t know which one’s optional info you have to include to get the poster to work.
Sorry I didn’t do a good job of explaining properly. What I meant to say in regards to the collections is the new Plex Agent doesn’t do a good job of automatically selecting posters for the movies IN collections.
In the examples below, you’ll see what the new Plex Agent thinks the 3 Iron Man movies should use as their default posters, verses what TMDB thinks. The new Plex Agent follows a different theme when selecting posters that goes against my preference.
In regards to just naming them “poster.jpg”, I don’t want to have every movie poster use the same filename as it makes searching for them difficult. A file search for posters would return hundreds of “poster.jpg” results, making me inspect each one to know what it is. By using the movie’s filename, I can identify them quickly.
