Plex losing subtitle while playing

Same issue here, had to downgrade…

Updated to 1.9.5.4339
Same issue. Seems Plex devs don’t care.

Can confirm after recent update to the latest it is still occurring.

I’ve bookmarked a gazillion threads to monitor these problems, but I’ve yet to see an ‘official’ response… might have missed it, but we’re closing in on a month now…

Reverting to 1.8 has apparently worked for a few others in this post.

The devs know very well about this issue. There are other threads where it is mentioned and they confirm there is an issue.
The lack of a response is very frustrating. They add all kind of unasked features like DVR, News, etc., while they don’t keep the core functionality of the software operational - all we wanted and payed money for, was the home media center, to stream our collection of movies and shows. Maybe it’s the time to look elsewhere - Infuse, Emby, and others.

@bengeorge any news? Please, help us.

+1 running latest version v1.9.4.4325

For those having the sub issues, downgrade your plex server to 1.8.xx. You can fetch it from here: http://www.filehorse.com/download-plex-media-server/31944/

having the same issue. +1
Please fix it asap … it’s quite annoying.

Ditto this for me, quite annoying to have to restart the episode every 2 minutes or so

Can confirm that downgrading solves the issue> @thisisevilevil said:

Same here - works OK in the Plex Media Player though.

Hey everyone, I’ve got an update to share with you on this issue. Engineering has been working on this and we have an upcoming release of PMS (v1.9.5, currently in beta/Plex Pass preview) that has a temporary fix. It should address the issue for many cases, though it’s not a 100% fix and engineering is continuing their investigation. As a temporary workaround in the meantime, changing an app’s Burn Subtitles (or equivalent) setting to “Always” should help things by forcing the subtitles to be burned in to the video stream.

Thanks for sharing. This “workaround” has been discussed in this and other threads weeks ago. It causes the video to be transcoded which is not what most people want here. Glad to hear the engineering is working on fixing it. Since this issue was sporadically plaguing Plex for years, I hope they understand deeply the cause of the issue.

Which cases?
When the partial/temporary fix for many cases going to be released to general public?

Many cases simply refers to that it should work for many users, but not all - since users run Plex on a variety of hardware, feeding it a huge variety of media. Users could be experiencing this issue for a variety of reasons. I don’t have a list of usage scenarios or root causes that are expected to be covered in the first fix, though I have reached out to engineering to get more details.

PMS v1.9.5 will bake in beta/Plex Pass preview until engineering feels its ready to go public. There is no time limit on that and I don’t have an ETA for it. In the past this has been a few days to a few weeks.

I would love if Plex took this issue serious, and gave it some sort of priority, not just putting all their energy into News and whatever that now can put ads in…

This problem has been here for weeks, its for many a key feature … Plex doesnt really care… And I just bought Plex Pass, I wouldnt have, if I knew the carelessness of this issue

Problem for me is no longer happening. Might be tied to certain files/movies.
