Failed to download subtitle

Hello everyone, I am currently attempting to download subtitles from SRT OpenSubtitles using the subtitles menu on Plex Web Version 4.114.3 and Server Version 1.32.5.7349. I noticed it stopped working today in the morning and still through the evening. It gives a “Failed to download subtitle error”. I’ve attempted to restart the server with no changes. Adding subtitles .srts manually to the server works like normal. This works with anything in the server. Anybody else experiencing this problem?

This just started happening to me too. Android and Windows clients, Latest Windows client ver 1.77.3.3966, linux server ver 1.32.5.7349. I have premium opensubtitles.org configured as agent. Always worked great before. I can log into opensubtitles.org without issue.

Adding a “me too” here. I just moved to a new server, and I figured it was due to that somehow. But maybe there is a bigger issue at play.

Same problem here. Also did restart, same issue. The agent finds the subs, but download fails every time.

Both debug or verbose logs provide no clue as to what could be causing this, which makes this issue even more difficult to diagnose.

Thank goodness! I thought it was just me. I’ve had this problem for 3 days. I have tried everything I could think of and was pulling my hair out. Now, I can relax and wait for a fix.

i think open subs are moving they’re api so its plexes end for sure, glad i aint the only one, you would of thought considering we pay them … that youd get a reply from an employee by now its ridiculous

This started to happen to me yesterday, already tried everything I could remember of.
Plex devs?

I’m running three different version of the Plex server, failed to download is happening on all three.

Here is what happens:

  • Go to media item.
  • Select Playback Settings
  • Select Streams
  • Select Subtitles (off)
  • Select More
  • Get a list of subtitles (normal ranked list)
  • Select the highest ranked matching subtitle

On Windows client I see the message “Failed to Download”
On Roku I see (takes awhile) “Something Went Wrong While…”
On Android “Uh-oh There was an error”

Weird thing, there is no opensubtitles log (com.plexapp.agents.opensubtitles.log) for the failure, usually I can look there and figure it out.

The server running on Win7, Win11 and Ubuntu, same for all of them.
