It is worth noting that 1.9.6.4385 fixes some of the issues people have experienced with subtitles. But the main issue of soft subtitles disappearing after a seek (or resume playback) is still being worked on.
Updated to 1.9.6.4385, and the problem with soft subtitles are still there.
Let me know i you want some more logs…
Thanks, but I think we know the issue. If you could confirm this is what you are seeing that would be awesome:
The issue we have found is such: when you seek, or resume playback subs stop after some seconds up to a few minutes. If you play a video from start, most likely everything will be OK.
Can’t give an accurate ETA just yet though, but there are people working on it now.
Same issue here. Just wanted to say that I get the bug even playing the movie from the begining. I’m using Xbox One Plex Player with a Plex PC Media Server on my LAN. If I stop the movie and resume I get them back for a few seconds and they disappear again.

Hey. I’m here to report that watching an episode from it’s very beginning the subtitle didn’t disappear.
I can confirm that for the same episode, with same subtitle and same configurations, subtitles stop working if resuming or seeking.
Tried with episode of 41 minutes long and another media of 118 minutes long. Both scenarios worked as you described.
Server Version: 1.9.4.4325
Web player version: 3.20.7
Thanks @rmalveis, knowing others can replicate in exact same way gives us confidence we are catching all the issues.
@zeta I will make sure guys working on this are aware of that XB1 behaviour for sure.
Same exact issues. Sub’s just go away and it seems to be related to either pause or seeking of any kind. Sometimes they come back I think?.. Most times they don’t.
Web Player 3.20.7
Server Version 1.9.4.4325
Same issue. Subs keep disappearing, and if I rewind or fast forward they might come back. Sometimes they don’t. This is in the new Xbox One app.
Web Player: Version 3.26.2.
Server Version: 1.9.6.4385.

Same here: On Xbox one with new plex client the subtitle dessapears and randomly comes back - or not. Stopping the movie and resume gets back it for a while. Please take care of it asap…
my current issue workaround:
if i play with vlc from plex server on xbox it does not loose subtitles

Thank you @bengeorge. I hope they can find a solution soon, it’s very very annoying and it’s been there for a while.
Plus 1 for the web based player. They go away after one or two minutes. Switch to different subtitles and they will work for another min or two then disappear again.
+1 for the Samsung TV player.
On a side, note, I have the feeling that the Plex team underestimate the importance of subtitles for a lot of users. No subtitles make Plex basically worthless. Please improve the way Plex handles subtitles :
- Plex does a bad job at fetching subtitles (it often misses subtitles that are available), so we have to rely on 3d party systems (filebot, sub-zero channel, etc)
- There is no way to ‘fix’ easily subtitles (upload a sub, or change a sync)
- There’s no way to ban/rate subtitles for a film
- There’s no way to search for movies having a certain language of subtitles
- Language of subs could be detected automatically

+1
-Ban/rate would be quite useful, indeed.
-With opensubtitles plugin it automatically searches for a sub (fingers crossed because it might be a really bad one)
-There is a semi-auto way of detecting the subs language is their name having .ln.srt or .lng.srt where ln and lng are the 2 and 3 letter country codes
Same issue as everyone else I guess. Starting the movie with the right subs and after 2 to 3 min it goes away. Only solution is pause select another sub, re-pause and select the right sub again…every 3 min. As a not of sarcasm this is as annoying as it gets.
Hopefully the plex team will find a solution.
PS: this goes for all platforms. Using iOS and X1 player
@“Gilles.D” I think
this is the first we have heard of an issue on iOS. I’ll pass it on to the iOS team and see if they can also replicate (I don’t own an iOS device to check myself ;)).
In the meantime, if you could just double check that would be awesome ?
it is more than a month since the subtitle problem has started !!!Hey!! what is going on??? you don’t have developers or employees that can handle this issue? I am still thinking if it is worth going for lifetime plex pass ,but as it look’s the plex team cannot handle a minor issue as this one. they already changed the server at least one time and the problem it is still there!! please fix the “loosing subtitle” issue!!
One would think rolling back a faulty piece of code takes a tiny bit less than a month, but who am I to know - just a random developer lurking around.
Its just not very high on their list, news and other paid stuff is… I regret that i bought plex pass.
Not that this issue would not affect paid customers, so it might not be the exact reason. I do hope that they at least rewrite this block properly, and even add some long awaited functionality if already there, a man can dream.
