Plex marketing emails

Hi there! I have a question regarding marketing emails. The first time I received a marketing email, I clicked on Unsubscribe, and unticked the Subscribe me to all marketing emails option.
I have also unsubscribed from the newsletter under the profile settings, and I can confirm this through different browsers (tested on Firefox and Chromium).
I still receive marketing emails from Plex about Plex Pass, and when clicking on Unsubscribe again, it does say that I am not receiving Plex email marketing communications, which is not true as I’m still receiving them.
How can I completely unsubscribe of such emails? Thanks!

Although in this case it is probably not true but many spammers use “unsubscribe” to verify the email is valid for more spam. When I receive emails I really do not want I just set a filter that automatically deletes and marks as junk and marks as read the unwanted email.

As I said this is probably not the case with Plex. Plex should not be sending those emails after you select “unsubscribe.” If it continues and Plex does not fix it a filter to trash the emails might be in order.

Some companies say it takes as much as a month for unsubscribe to take effect but it shows a lack of care for the customer if it takes more than a day. Computers are fast and unsubscribe requires no human interaction at all.

Do you or did you perhaps use more than one email address with Plex? Considering that your account is only about two weeks old, you couldn’t have seen many marketing emails.

Agreed; I wanted to keep the filtering as a last resort solution and I hope it can be fixed by Plex.

No I don’t have any other email associated with Plex. I signed up on November 6th for the first time with this email.
I received the first marketing email on November 12th, and I used the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of that email. Since then, I have received two more marketing emails, on the 18th and on the 23rd of November.
Could you please confirm if the opt out preference does indeed takes time to propagate as per @Elijah_Baley’s comment, and that the emails will stop after some time?
Please let me know if there’s any other information I can provide and thanks for the help!

Yes, it takes a while to process the opt-out. The email system is very much separated from the general user database of Plex. (That’s a good thing, even if it introduces these delays.)

Nonetheless, I forwarded your account details to the appropriate ppl so they can check what’s going on.

Would you do the following, to support investigation of this issue?

  1. copy the “unsubscribe” link from your email and paste it into a Personal Message to me.
  2. click on the “unsubscribe” link again
  3. make a screenshot of the resulting web page and send it to me as well

or you could do the following:

  1. go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/account
  2. edit NEWSLETTER and subscribe again
  3. wait 5 minutes
  4. visit the same page again and unsubscribe from Newsletter

I followed the steps you described here and I also PMed you the requested link and screenshot.

No, I visited the user account page and followed the steps before I took the screenshot.

I’ve continue to receive marketing emails and it has been several weeks. I have validated that I’m not subscribed to the newsletter in the app settings and I click the unsubscribe link within the email and the checkbox about receiving emails is already unchecked. I’ve tried locating a contact from the website but none of the contacts seemed appropriate. It should be as simple as unsubscribing from the email link and that shouldn’t take more than a few days. I believe a working unsubscribe is a requirement of federal spam law, so if I can’t get this resolved soon I’m going to look into reporting spam law violations to the FCC.

I’m having the same problem. Didn’t want to PM you as I see in your profile you say not to. This is my main account although it’s to my secondary account that I keep getting marketing emails. I’ve tried unsubscribing probably 5-10 times already. Never works. Can you help out?

Having this same problem, since I’m not the only one it seems like something is broken in Plex’s email marketing unsubscribe process (I signed up two months ago via email, no 3rd party auth). Unsubscribed weeks ago and still getting tons of marketing emails from Plex. Going to give Plex the benefit of the doubt that it’s not intentional.

In case Plex has a marketing person working for them who thinks this is okay, it’s important to understand the consequences—

Each time you don’t honor an unsubscribe request for American consumers it is a violation of the CAN-SPAM act, carrying potentially a $40,000 fine from the FTC for each violation.

As a business owner, I’d put this at the top of my to do list if I were Plex. Some users might not be so forgiving and may already be reporting this through the proper channels.

Also, I know it can be tempting for less experienced marketing folks, but Plex is sending WAY too many marketing emails. This is a great way to crater your open rate and deliverability over time doing this. I wouldn’t be unsubscribing if I was getting a reasonable amount. But multiple
promotional emails per week is just ridiculous.
