Plex Media Fingerprinter.exe crashing after 4/29 update

Even since the 4/29/21 update, I’ve had multiple dialog boxes on my Windows Plex Server PC pop up in the morning. I have to close over a dozen of them. All say the Plex Media Fingerprinter.exe service crashed. I’m not sure which log to look in to find the cause.

However…

When I run it manually from the command line, I get a popup saying the program can’t start because libc++.dll is missing, and then the normal crash window. So maybe that’s all I need! Now why it wasn’t installed during the last update, I don’t know.

Can anyone else with a Windows Plex server let me know where this file is supposed to go, and if you have a copy you can send me? I don’t want to randomly download the wrong version from the Interwebs.

I loaded a new copy of Plex Media Server in a VM and the file runs without issue. But it doesn’t have the dll file anywhere either, so it must be in another update or something. I’m not sure where to go now. It might be a Visual C++ update.

I think I have the exact same issue as well.
PeekNamedPipe failed: 0x6d when detecting intros - Plex Media Server - Plex Forum

I didn’t get the pop-up but clearly from the logs this is the exec that is crashing. And when manually executing it I get the same error as you.

There are two libraries it’s unable to link to.

I just restored to a backup from 2 weeks ago and the program runs now from the CLI. I’m doing updates slowly to see if it breaks. As of right now, all OS and other various updates are done EXCEPT the latest Plex update. I’m going to do another backup but will have to test the Plex update later this weekend…

I have the exact same issue and error. It started after 1.23.0.4438

Update 1.23.0.4459 came out 4/30 but that did not fix it.

MS 2021-04 Security Monthly Update was run on 4/23 and the system rebooted so it ran without issue from 4/23 to 4/29. It must be something in 4438 (for me)

I tried to reload 4392 but it errored out that you cannot install older version. Going to make a directory backup, uninstall and install 4392. (will try next but first)

There was a MS Stack Update so I applied it and rebooted. When it came back up I went into Plex and pushed a scan on the TV lib. It found new entries and when it got to Detecting intros: that is when the Fingerprinter.exe error comes up.

When you did a restore, was the version or size different from the current fingerprint.exe? As near as I can tell, this is not a missing dll but a c++ compile error when standard c++ lib is not referenced or included within the compile. I believe fingerprint.exe is bad from version .4438

I think at this point I won’t upgrade and pass on the next couple updates. The devs should surely notice this eventually. I’m surprised there aren’t more complaints.

I am also having the issue.
For now renamed the ‘broken’ .exe and restored the prior version from my incremental backup. The errors are gone, using the .exe dated 4/19/2021

The latest (broken) ‘fingerprinter’ .exe dated 4/29/2021 is 102KB, on all my backups going as far back to to November 2020 the size of the executable is 616KB.

Since Plex Server throws the ‘fingerprinter’ error an keeps running some may not be noticing it is happening.

Hope this helps until Plex resolves…

does anyone have a link that i can grab the old file I’m a dummie and din’t a create back up

just in case heres the error report
