Plex Media Player and future

This may have been brought up before, but as a paying plex supporter, I’m going to bring it up again.

I installed the media player on a new device earlier and switched it out of TV mode. When doing so, it informed me that eventually that is all that will be available. As an IT professional, and gamer, I am on my PC very often, and very often I watch movies (my plex server is on another machine) while working, or gaming, and I like the functionality the existing player gives me.

Microsoft tried to do this with Windows 8… and it failed miserably… why do it with the media player? Why take away this perfectly acceptable functionality the existing media player has? Are we trying to get more like Kodi (which is horrible in my opinion… at least for anything other than a TV?)

I’ve already tried the HTPC player and it is no comparison to the existing Plex Media Player. Also, before someone suggests it… I’m a player kind of guy, not a browser kind

Perhaps you’d like the regular Plex app.

I get the fancy “An unknown error occurred (4294967283)” error with the Plex app…

I assume you get that error when attempting playback?

Are you able to play other content from Plex, like the Free Movies?

I’m curious to narrow it down to something that happens when playing ANY video, or if it only occurs when playing media from your Plex Media Server.

Is your Plex Media Server reasonably up-to-date? Mind sharing server logs?

I have about 1000 movies in my library… seems to be with anyone of them. I dont know anything about the free movies, I’ve never used that. I did check in the player, and only my libraries seem to be there ( I believe I turned this feature off some time ago.) I’ve updated the server a couple of months ago, although I’m sure its due for another… I’m not really interested in troubleshooting this app… but I do very much appreciate your offer to help. If/when it comes down to it, and I have to switch to it, I’ll worry about it then.
