I’m sorry, probably posting this in the wrong section. I find the forum confusing. I also find the reason for Plex for Windows existenz confusing.
This new app is just called “Plex” — it’s the macOS and Windows equivalent of our other apps: your window to media greatness (even though this one’s supercharged with all the same server and library management capabilities of our web app)
Some time ago Plex said that according to there data. Most users don’t use Plex Media Player with TV Mode so it was going to be dropped, but …
After reading PMP vs Plex for Windows where a user simply asks Why Does Plex for Windows exist. He or She is provided with a link o the blog Plex for Windows I now know that TV Mode will live on (Thank god), but …
After reading the blog is still don’t understand why Plex for Windows exist.
My best guess is that Plex wants to have one app for all. That ofc is outstanding, but …
Plex now knows that HTPC is law. So I’m wondering what is next? Plex for Windows latest version is from July 29, 2020 and Plex Media Player, May 19, 2020.
I love the Web Interface – I Hate that I cannot use it in TV Mode. Work on that and I gladly pay.
Because having a tv mode and an desktop mode in one app more effort to maintain than it is worth. The web interface was shoehorned into Plex Media Player for those people who insisted on using a mouse with a interface meant for TVs with a remote.
If you want TV mode use PMP
If you want desktop mode use Plex for Windows/Mac
Both of these will be able to play many many more file types than a web browser ever will.
And you wouldn’t need two modes if it was possible to navigate with a remote on the web interface, period.
The users want themes/skins/etc. The web interface offers all the metadata needed. It’s just missing remote navigation. Yeah I know. Its not easy to to make that happen considering its current layout. But it very much possible and the only way forward if you ask me.
What facts? I was asking what is going to happen. You told me …
If you want TV mode use PMP
If you want desktop mode use Plex for Windows/Mac
One clear fact as of now due. It that the web interface will never get remote support.
Will we ever get themes or skins?
At some point will HDR work on Windows?
Hi @BigWheel
I have a NUC HTPC and am using PMP 2.58.
I wonder when PMP will get the same love as the other Plex apps are receiving, such as Intro Skip support, watch free live TV, etc
Do you have some info about this?
Okay, thanks anyway
My thoughts are that it seems Plex Media Player is not getting the attention it deserves.
Most Plex apps are updated on a regular basis with all the nice and latest features while PMP 2.58 has not been updated since May 2020.
When Plex announced the very nice Skip intro and Live TV feature, I was really disappointed when I found out that PMP was not going to get these features.
I hope Plex will give PMP some well deserved love
If you have the possibility to forward this request to the PMP engineering team, that would be fantastic.
I am really disappointed because Plex for Windows does lack some basic features. It stuttered as hell and was unusable on my PCs because it would not let me change video output modes. PMP did that.
so sad we are forced to use PLEX for windows
