I’m confused how to install the embedded plex, is there instructions? or do i just unzip the .tar and launch?
oh I wasn’t expecting it to write an image to the sd card. So am I able to install stuff like retropie or kodi after? Seems like it would have been better/more flexable if it was a linux package
Its not a Linux Package. Its an embedded appliance OS image. The underlying OS is a fork of a JEOS Linux distro called LibreELEC. PMP is a service that start automatically. The only GUI you get is PMP UNO. You can not install other apps.
First time i used this other then rasplex. Latest build works awesome! I can finally use the search subtitle function that plex offers. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Does the (auto)update function works so that i dont have to worry about that?
Sorry for the bad english
How can I do an in place upgrade (ie upgrade to a newer version without losing all settings)? I read sthing about an “Update share” but don’t find that anywhere (neither with SMB enabled)
Brownie points for answering own question:
- get the .tar file for arm from here https://nightlies.plex.tv/public-test/plexmediaplayer/embedded-testing/latest/
- secure copy (scp) this to /storage/.update
- reboot
i confirm that PlexMediaPlayer-2.44.0.1014-b9b0f2fd.RPi2-arm.tar works on the 3B+
Has anyone tried this on a Pi4 yet?
Yep…I have…several times…does not work.
Here I was formatting and burning the img to a 2nd SD card then swapping out the SD cards and going through all the settings again (including having to set the correct Timezone etc!)
This saves me over 30 minutes of faffing about every time there’s a new version.
Not as good as just selecting UPDATE from the settings menu, but hey.
Thank you sir!
On that topic, does anyone know how to make the UPDATE function in the settings menu work?
Dmonds
I tried this again a year+ later on the Pi 3b+ and it’s still crap. Extremely slow navigation and unit crashes and has to be restarted constantly - no improvement at all. Super depressing.
Whats the user and password to connect with ssh?
EDIT:
User: root
Password: plex
Anyone gotten a Rii i25 remote to function properly on this piece of … software ?
Oh man, great tip, thank you for sharing!
