Plex Media Player on Mac 10.15 Catalina Beta

Hi everyone,

someone test the macOS Plex app with macOS Catalina 10.15 beta ?

right now, for me, when I use the Mac app, with Catalina 10.15 beta :

  • if I log with my main account after entering my password, I got a black screen in the app, nothing else
  • if I tried with a regular user account, it works, I can log, but if I start a movie / series, I can’t have access to the setting (language, subtitle)

Other experience the same issues ?

Thank you

same issue for me :frowning:

No problem with streaming and playing, but the setting page doesn’t work with a black screen, and the poster page of edit infomation page also doesn’t work with a black screen.

macOS Catalina Public Beta 2 (19A501i) seems to have fixed this for me.

Plex player on Beta 2 doesn’t work for me. Any thoughts?

Try opening the .app by right clicking it in finder and pressing “open” to see if you can bypass that - I had to do that for a couple apps like WhatsApp.

Hi All, I’ve tried to install Plex on my MacBook and it’s blocked. The OS won’t allow it to install. I checked security and there is nothing there to allow it to open.

MacOS Catalina Beta 6 - Plex no longer plays any audio, but video streaming is fine. If I use Plex from my iPad mini, (still on iOS 12) audio still works. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Just a note that we’re aware of problems on Catalina.

Is there any timeframe on when the issues will be resolved? The media player is unusable for me on Catalina.

I know it’s a beta OS, but it’s final release is likely to be very soon…

We’re testing Catalina internally and hoping support is available before Catalina launches in October.

Our 1.3 build is now notarized for Catalina support. Although, Catalina is still unsupported. Beta 7 specifically worsened behavior. Beta 7 leads to an entire rendering failure, it’s described in https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-77958 if you’re curious.

Matt. Thank you. The Plex app generates a black screen on current Catalina beta 10.15. Hence unusable. As a short term workaround if you use the safari or chrome browser it works fine.

Will you guys be implementing another framework in the meantime as Qt 5.12 will more than likely not support Apple’s Metal API until Qt 6 is released late 2020.

Plex cllent is now working for me in the latest cut of Catalina. No longer hung at startup. It was not working for me before.

macOS Catalina 10.15 Beta (19A573a)

Doesn’t work for me either :sob:

@cannondale1 what version of the Plex app do you have installed?

What’s the Mac model and currently installed version of Catalina?

iMac with the newest Catalina 10.15 and Plex is 1.18.0 I think worked fine before the update

What’s the version of the Media Player, not the server, thanks!

Also, the exact version of Catalina, please, e.g. “macOS Catalina 10.15 Beta (19A573a)”

I am not running beta it’s the catalina that came out yesterday 10.15

And what version of the media player app?
