Plex media player win 10 buffer issues vs perfect playback on VLC

Server Version#
Player Version#: free : 2.21.0.914

Playing a 4K HEVC movie on my Pc , local HDD with DTS MA audio . Playback studders and constantly hits “buffering” and DTS is listed on the menu , but does not activate playback.

Played the EXACT same movie file in VLC… flawless and DTS is activated. Plex media server (on same pc) has media set to play Original and not downsize video.

Tried playing it from my nvidia shield tv and got the same results.

How funny. I have a 4K movie and VLC studders all the time from it. Plex plays just fine after the initial 45-60 second load and a 10 second buffer after 5 or so minute into it.

I hit buffer about every 1-2 min cycles through the movie. Although I’m playing a natively supported file, I set my transcoder to “Make my CPU hurt” . I’m on a gigabit network (not wireless), these are my results

Over the network
LG stock player = shutters the whole way through, says audio format is unknown. Plays audio very low

nVidia Shield = list DTS as the audio source, does not want to passthrough sound (no sound at all), picture shutters all the way through

Directly on the PC

local Plex Windows Player = lists DTS as audio source, plays sound very quietly, appears to play fine, but then every 1-2 mins I hit a buffer cycle

Plex Windows (from the windows app store) = a true waste of $5. I wish the app store would detect "you’re on a home PC? redirects to plex.tv download page instead of buying that hot garbage . click on “Settings” nothing happens. click on “profile” nothing happens. Does not list if movie is in 4K nor does display audio source type. thank god I found the alternative download.

VLC = DTS activated, no stutter, no interruption, but i’m extremely left confused as to why it works flawlessly here and not Plex.
