Plex Media Server and SMB1 Drobo Shares

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.32.0.6918-6f393eda1-x86_64
Player Version#: Plex Web

In the last week+, updating content has caused plex to wipe out entire seasons when trying to find newest single file. Thinking I had a corrupt db, I tried to refresh metadata on the entire show and the whole show insta-vanished.

Still thinking I had a corrupt db, tried to repair following support FAQ docs. No dice. So I just bit the bullet and reinstalled from scratch figuring I’d restart from the ground up since I had all the media still.

That was when I found that plex was unable to browse my Z: drive, the smb1 share from an older drobo FS. It could see Z: but not browse it. Windows 10 is browsing it and I can interact with the files just file, but plex can not.

On a hunch, I reinstalled PlexMediaServer-1.28.1.6104-788f82488-x86 because I still had it in my downloads folder from the original install. Without a hitch, it finds and reads Z: and is currently rebuilding as expected.

Did something change in the most recent update that would cause plex to no longer browse shared drives on win 10? Because I am 100% certain after it finishes rebuiling, if I let it update to the current version, it will once again cease to read Z and wipe out the db entries as a result when trying to update any data related to the library.

SMBv1 is broken in 6918. Plex is aware and working on a fix.

If you cannot use SMBv2 or higher, the workarounds are to fall back to a prior version or use NFS instead of SMB.

There are multiple threads in the forum. Here’s the main one to follow:

A fix to address the various issues with network shares was released earlier this week - the fix is in Plex Media Server version 1.32.0.6950 and later

  • (Windows) Scanning libraries on certain network mounts could fail (#14259)

For further issues relating to network mapped drives / unc / drivepool etc, please raise as new forum topics providing details and server logs

Thanks
