OK, I’m using Starlink in its purest form so directly connecting to it for my BB, Remote access has never worked directly from my Windows based Laptop. I can download to Plex and thats it!
However, my iPhone and all other devices are also connected to Starlink directly with no issues, so, why is it that I can watch my library downloads through the app on my iPhone using ‘Air Play’ onto my LG and have NO issues with playback, occasionally if the laptop is running a routine security programme I may need to reload…
ANY advice appreciated, I did consider sharing the laptop screen but my LG doesn’t seem to like that approach.
I don’t want to start adding any further extras, I don’t see why I should.
I’m honestly not sure what you are saying the problem is. If all these devices are local to the router what does remote access have to do with.
What does that mean? It is just being a modem and you have no router? the server is expecting to be on a normal local network with RFC 1918 compliant IPs that a router would give via DHCP
Edit:
Doing quick search it appears that Starlink uses CGNAT so remote access won’t work since i don’t think you would be able to port forward
Ok, my iPhone allows me to play my stored Plex downloads (including new download content) stored on my laptop via air play on to my lg smart tv when we are not at home.
I’d usually watch via my VM router where my laptop is connected.
I’ve tried toggling off IP6 with no difference when using Starlink, is Plex incapable of working in the ‘usual’ format with Starlink and if so is there a SIMPLE fix.
My LG Plex app will show the correct library but won’t play, it suggests in a comment box on screen that there’s an internet speed issue?
We all know from time to time there are issues with PMS not remaining connected.
There should be no problems for everything on the same local LAN. I have not noticed any posts about local connections when using StarLink.
Regarding remote access, as @BigWheel mentions, Starlink uses CG-NAT, which is incompatible with Plex remote access. It places the Plex server in a double-NAT situation and does not support port forwarding.
Starlink now offers public, dynamic IPv4 addresses that support port forwarding. It is on their Priority plan that costs an additional $20/month: Starlink | Service Plans.
No idea how well this works with Plex. I’ve seen a couple of reddit posts of people using the service. They did not specifically mention Plex.
That allows a wired, vs wi-fi, connection. It has nothing to do with NAT.
From what I can see via a quick search, some Starlink routers do not have wired Ethernet ports. The adapter provides one for people who want/need a wired Ethernet connection.
