At first the app would just keep opening Plex in my browser instead of the app on my Mac. I tried to delete it but kept getting these. I’ve tried restarting my computer and force deleting, and neither work. What can I do?
Click and hold on the Plex icon in your dock and select Quit. If that doesn’t work, try going to the Apple Menu and select Force Quit to see if Plex is listed there. If it’s not there, open the Activity Monitor and force quit it.
This is expected.
Plex Server is a background app without its own user interface. Immediately after installation, and when you tell it to “open plex”, it will open the default web browser with the address of the local Plex web app.
You will need to check the security permissions of your system, to allow “Plex Media Server” access to the local network.
The same for the web browser when it has loaded either the “local” or the “hosted” web app.
The app called “Plex” is a dedicated and separate Plex Client app. That means it isn’t the Plex Server, but is dedicated to playing back content from a Plex server, without the restrictions of a web browser.
