Plex Media Server connection/display on Samsung 2020 Tizen TV from iMac

Server Version#:1.42.2.10156
Player Version#: Tizen from iMac

TV display doesn’t show Plex menu of thumbnails as it did a while ago.

Since the latest upgrade the Automatic Login and the 24 hour clock settings don’t save either.

My iMac is on OS Catalina V10.15.7

Does anyone else have this problem and do you have any suggestions on how to get the TV to display the Plex menu?

Looks like you’re using the Smasung TV‘s stock video player and connect to the server through DLNA.
How that player displays the content presented through DLNA is outside the control of Plex.
Any chance you can run/install the Plex player for Samsung on that TV?

Yes I have DLNA set to on in Plex.

I.ll try with it off.

Won’t connect at all with DLNA off on Plex setting. Now trying back with DLNA on Plex set as on.

My original feedback wasn’t aimed at disabling DLNA. If you need that for some connection on a device which doesn’t support a native Plex app… that’s perfectly fine.
However, your initial post was asking why there’s no Plex menu / thumbnails… make sure you use the Plex player. Not the native video app of your TV to achieve that.

Now I have DLNA switched on I have video playing and Plex is showing as a source on the TV.

Menu issue remains but good progress.

You are misunderstanding @tom80H’s replies.

You are using the wrong app.

Install and use the Plex app on the TV.

Thanks but I’ve tried the app and it takes around 2.5minutes to load but then buffers.

I will have a look at what comes up via the app and see if I get the proper Plex menu and thumbnails

The DLNA server in Plex is very basic.

VLC on my PC displays cover art for movies and TV shows (I don’t have a Samsung TV). However, the navigation folders (Video, Music, etc.) are basic icons.

If you want the full Plex look and feel (menu structure, posters, etc.) you will need to use the Plex app on the Samsung or use a streaming stick/box connected to the TV.

I’ve tried via the app and it took 2m 10s to load with the Plex logo and then went blank. I gave up waiting after another 3 minutes.

I seems that I must be content with waiting for Plex to appear as a source and then using the basic icons.

On the other minor point, since the last upgrade of Plex the setting for Automatic Login and selecting the 24 hour clock, are still not locking although it says changes saved it reverts to automatic login being off and the 12 hour clock.. Anyone else had this?

Hi again. Just dome some more searching on the forum and found a post from you with a link.

https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/devices/web that solved the Auto login and clock issue.

I’ve tried it and it’s now working ok.

Interestingly I’’m using an iMac and Firefox.

Tried the app again and still the same result though with ending with a blank screen after getting the Plex logo,
