Plex server has been crashing whenever I do a scan of any library, it’s happily scanning away then just dies usually within less than a minute. I have been through everything, tried older version 1.5.5, eventually doing a totally clean install of latest beta. I add one library, scanning begins then soon it crashes. It’s on the same machine I’ve been using for many years, nothing has changed. It is unusable at present for me.
The irony is I’ve used plex server for many years, then when I purchased a lifetime plex pass a few months back it hasn’t worked since! I would consider myself to be highly knowledgeable in this area, having modded plex/kodi plug-ins and coded various other av related apps over the years along with endless experimentation, so know both inside out.
I can send logs, but to where? I don’t want to attach or up them to a public space. Having viewed them I see nothing of interest though.
OK so yesterday I :-
-disabled “Plex Update Service.exe” + “Plex Update Service Launcher.exe” + “PlexTunerService”
-removed Plug-ins XBMCnfoMoviesImporter.bundle + XBMCnfoTVImporter.bundle
-Reverted to v1.5.5.3634 from 15 months ago
-Completely Deleted Plex, the databse + registry key and started from scratch
-Upgraded to latest beta v1.13.8.5388
-Analysed verbose logs and windows events = no clues.
= all to no avail
I normally remote to my (headless) plex server using remote desktop. So I have today:-
-removed a few rarely used apps from machine
-Stopped rdp’ing and vnc’ed in instead. (I know kodi17 crashes if full screen over rdp, fixed in v18 + logs errors if audio=remote, my server uses VirtualAudioCable dummy as has no soundcard)
-Run Chrome remotely to interact with server, not locally on server.
= Scanning now for 30 minutes with no crash!
I will now try and a/b to narrow down what was causing the persistent crashes, so hopefully your testers will be able to easily recreate and enable devs to fix.
Awesome response! Yes StationRipper was one of the apps that I removed (added it to record a radio show a few months ago with no success anyway). Since removing it Plex has been rock solid. Sorry didn’t check your reply sooner, been totally revamping libs with perfect metadata, so other queries coming soon!
