On Friday Oct 1 I noticed by Plex server would crash. If I restart the application it may run for a few minutes and exit again. I have tried reverting to the previous version and rebooting. I upgraded to the latest version and rebooted. But the problem continues.
Server Version#: Version 1.24.4.5081
Player Version#:
Found a number of uploaded crash reports from your system - they were for before the times covered in the logs - last uploaded crash report was for crash at Oct 4, 2021 7:20:48 PM UTC PMS time 12:20:48
But probably they were for the same crash that repeatedly happened after that and appears to be a crash when scanning a TV Library - possibly some extended character issue with the episodes / show names
Library being scanned #TV Shows-DirtyBOX - I do not know if the # is relevant to the issue
Directory being scanned
D:\MEDIA\PLEX\TEKILLA-DIRTY\Plex Versions\Custom_ Universal TV 35
Could you send me a complete directory listing of this path with all directories / filenames - send it as zipped txt file to me by Private Message.
I will refer the dumps to the development team but would need to be able to repro the issue - so filenames /directory names important
@tekilla-808 Could you try the latest beta as it had an update to the boost library and the crash was in boost code relating to regex handling
Current beta 1.24.4.5081-e362dc1ee
Let me know if crashes continue or stop - with fresh logs if they continue
Also please look for temporary dmp files copied to %TEMP% after the crash and attempts to upload the crash report - filenames would look like this 2753dac0-dd93-45a9-8e1c-18bcaca13f44 this is just an example - not sure if there is a .dmp filename extension or not
@tekilla-808 I am going to hold back on referring the crash dumps to the development team until I have the file / directory list and also confirmation that the problem also arises on the latest beta 1.24.4.5081-e362dc1ee
Everyone thank you for the help on this. I was running the beta I uninstalled and reinstalled it a few times. Then I went to older versions. But I can go back to that version again.
Attached is my directly list. Just an FYI, the directory in question is the output directory for my transcoded movies. I will also remove all the finished movies to see if they were the cause.
The # is in the library name but not in the folder name. I’ve used the # for years for my directories that I auto optimize.
It may sound crazy, but I map the same directory twice, once as a temp movie directory and once as a temp tv show directory. When plex detects a movie it outputs the optimized file to the Custom_ Universal TV 35 subfolder, and when it detects a show it outputs the file to the Custom_ Universal TV 36 subfolder. I then run scripts to move items into their correct directories.
FYI. All of the files in the directory that was crashing were created as outputs by Plex. I moved all of those optimized files out and the server stopped crashing. Would you happen to know which file was the one that was causing the crash. I did see a file with an underscore. I’m not sure if that was the problem file. Would you be able to tell me which log file had error for the directory scan?
I tested several files that had non-standard characters. The file that caused the crash is fear Street_ Part One - 1994 (2021).mp4. The file is a fluke, the name has two years in the name. If I delete 1994 or (2021) the crash stops. If i put a period in between the dates 1994.(2021) it also stops.
The original file did not cause a crash only the optimized version.
The regex pattern identification code for TV seasons and Episode identification was changed recently to allow for some variations - of course having movie file name syntax in a TV library would complicate matters and may lead to unexpected behaviour
Thank you for all your help on this. I agree my setup is not standard because I am processing both movies and tv shows in the same parent directory. Hopefully the info I provided can be used to tweak a future update how it parses files. You guys rock.
