Hello, I am looking for some help, I had a problem with Windows 10 the other day and I had to repair it. This means that I had to reinstall Plex Media Server. So I did this but now it says that it can’t find my desktop, there is nothing blocked in my Bitdefender, it has acces to everyhting but still it can’t find my deskopt and I cannot add any media files to my Plex Server. Can anybody tell me what to do please. Thank you
I’m not sure what this means. Where does it say that?
If the entire computer was wiped, I bet the server was a new install. Probably hasn’t associated the new install with their account, so when logging into a client it can’t find the “old” server, which is gone.
Yeah the account may not know the old server is gone and may just have it listed as unavailable with the triangle.
Server Version#: 1.25.6.5577
Player Version#: 1.41.0.2876
Hello, my computer crashed last week so I had to repair Windows and reinstall everything, including Plex Media Server and Plex App for Windows. I did this and added my media files. So far so good.
I also had the Plex App installed on my LG Oled TV and had it connected to my desktop with Win10 on it. Now the tv app says that the server is not available, I can retry the connection but it still says server unavailable. The name of the server on the tv app is the same as the server name, the name of my desktop but it still won’t connect.
I have deleted the app from my tv, reïnstalled it, logged in with username and password that I use for the Plex Media Server and still it says it can’t connect to the server. I need some help here because I don’t know what to do anymore. Is it because of the IP adress, I never had to manually enter it before, it always just connected, until now.
So any advice is welcome, thank you.
First step is knowing if you can access to your new server on that windows machine via the browser. If it is showing as running in the task tray can you access it from there? ( it should open web app in browser). If you can open from there does it show as being claimed/signed in by you in the general settings of server
I can acces the server, it shows in the system tray as running and when I open it a google chrome tab pops up and I can see all my media files that I added. When I look at the devices that have acces to my media server it says Chrome two times, one is 4.69.1, the other is 4.75.0, then I have two times the name of my desktop and one mentions Plex Media Server and the other Plex For Windows. Do I have to manually add my tv to this list, and if so how do I do that?
Shouldn’t need to “manually” add a client to the list on the server. But you need to make sure that the ACCOUNT you are logged into when viewing it in a browser is the same account you use on the TV. Once you did so, you need to “claim” the server to your account. This is necessary because each install of a server has a unique ID in the background to differentiate it from other servers. Even though they are named the same thing as before, Plex sees them as different servers. This prevents you from naming your server the same generic name (“Plex server”, for example) and suddenly thousands of people with the same name for their own server see yours too.
See if you can go to this page:
I don’t know what it looks like for an unclaimed server, but if it has any differences (enable Show Advanced button in upper right), then maybe you aren’t logged into the management pane as your account and haven’t claimed it.
If it is claimed to your account, then you should be able to see this content on your TV app signed into the same account.
A Thought that just hit me: Make sure you look for More>
content on the TV App. By default, these apps show a handful of “pinned” libraries, but I think that if you add another server then the libraries for those servers don’t show up on the home page. You need to “pin” those “new” libraries to your home page. This may be why you don’t see the “new” server on your TV.
This is the button on the browser, but the TV app ought to have a similar item at the bottom of the list.
Those are devices you are signed into. You just need to sign into app with account. On TV’s it will be via the method by entering the code you see on TV at https://plex.tv/link
Ok everybody, thank you, it is solved, the problem as far as I can tell was at the start, when I entered the activation code, I went to the site it showed on my tv, on my phone and entered the code when I was sitting in front of the TV. Apparently I had to enter it on my desktop computer for it to work. I did a complete reset of the plex app on my tv, so I had to login again and received another activation code. This time I entered it on my desktop and it worked, I can see my library again. So I thought it would be enough if I entered the code on a device that is connected to the same network as my tv and my desktop, seems it was not. Well lesson learned. Thank you to everyone for the support.
