I am trying to start my Plex Media Server setup from 100% scratch. However everytime I go through the uninstall and reinstall process, the old server is still found, with the old name, settings etc.
- Full uninstall - tried via plex uninstaller from exe, system uninstaller and third party uninstaller.
- Registry item removed - tried manually and from a third party uninstaller
- AppData folder removed - tried manually and from third party installer
- Tried removing from Authorised Devices (clicking the x), it just goes to become an unclaimed ‘nearby’ server
- Tried removing the ‘Friendly name’ to see what it thinks the PC name is. It is the name of my PC.
- Tried removing the Windows level user, purging all of their files and resetting up the user.
Every single time after reinstalling, the same server is found ‘nearby’ with the same name, ready to be claimed.
Please please tell me what I am doing wrong. Are there other secret areas Plex may be leaving files? Is it somehow syncing this server to my account and resetting it up. I have no idea how this can be happening.
Some other info which may or may not be relevant:
- When I do claim this server it cannot be seen by any other Plex app on my network ie log on on TV, browser on laptop. It also can’t be claimed by any other PC/Mac.
- If claimed on the main PC. Then Plex logged into on another PC. Server is shown in settings as 'Unable to connect to" (I have also tried removing from here)
- I can change the name of the server before uninstall. Then do a purge of temp files, registry, etc. Reinstall, and the name I changed it to is still there.
- There are currently no other User accounts. All their file systems have been deleted and then destroyed/overwritten by Eraser.
- I have tried installing on a different drive on the PC. Each time I’ve done this I have properly deleted all file systems associated with Plex.
This makes no sense to me. Thank you in advance
