Plex media server inaccessible on host computer

Hi,

I am unable to access my PLEX server after a recent Windows 10 re-install (clean install). It was working previously and now it won’t.

I cannot access via the Plex Media Player or in Firefox/Chrome the following URL’s:

http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html
http://192.168.0.180:32400/web
http://192.168.0.180:32400/web/index.html

I have a tried a clean install 3 times now by taking the following steps:

  1. exit plex server app
  2. deleting local AppData
  3. deleting registry entries
  4. restart desktop/windows
  5. install latest PLEX server version

The host computer this is installed on cannot access the plex web app. I am logged in but it keeps ‘searching’ for the server and not finding any.

I am unable to reach the app from clients. I have ports forwarded to this static IP. I am running out of ideas.

I am unsure on the technical details of how PLEX works but I can’t understand why I wouldn’t be able to access it in the web app from the host computer.

Server Version#: 1.16.3.1402

I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you.

Out of interest, if you install a VPN application, and connect to the VPN, then restart PMS, are then magically able to access via the local URL’s? (helping a mate troubleshoot an issue with his plex server which started sometime in the last couple of weeks, wondering if it’s related…)

That’s me. Having this issue since upgrading Plex.
First I could not connect with the Plex app on my Samsung smart TV after it just updated to the newest version. UI fully changed.

I figured I must have to update the server, so I updated server to latest version.

Since then I cannot access Plex at all on my local network.

If I connect to a VPN, however, and then restart Plex server, everything works fine.

Nothing changed on my local PC or on my router config, only change was updating Plex (and before that, the plex TV app had automatically updated).

Nothing obvious in the logs even with verbose mode activated.

Looks like it’s some registry keys at fault that didn’t get cleared when removing plex.

Try the below guide:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

It worked for me and i can access the server on localhost, although now the server keeps saying it’s unclaimed over and over again…

So it does seem like there is still something wrong with the newest version of plex?

Steps taken so far:

  1. Removed C:\Users\unCHOOL\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\ folder
  2. Removed registry keys located in ```
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
3. Uninstalled plex
4. Download latest plex
5. Changed default browser to internet explorer to make sure there was nothing weird cached. You could just try clearing all cache/cookies
5. Install Plex
6. Right click - launch - it greets me with initial setup now.

After going through initial setup it still says my local server is unavailable......... what the hell.

Good idea to test.

I have PIA VPN installed but not running. I connected to the VPN and re-started the Plex server.

Still times out

Same for me, I don’t see anything odd in the logs. There are some plugin errors only but that doesn’t look like a showstopper.

I’ve manually deleted those registry keys after uninstalling and before reinstalling. Still no localhost.

I hadn’t thought to change the default browser. Tried that this morning. No difference for me there.

I think this solved it somehow. Two possibilities: 1) Windows had an update. I had to install and restart. 2) I enabled Telnet. It wasn’t enabled at all and had to be installed. I had to restart.

After doing a restart, Plex’s webapp opened and I am now adding libraries. This is much more than I was able to do before! Thank you!

I’m not sure which of the above resolved it though.

Ok so deleting the following registry keys allows me to access the server on localhost, but once i try to “claim” the server, it breaks it again.

  • PlexOnlineHome
  • PlexOnlineMail
  • PlexOnlineToken
  • PlexOnlineUsername

Does anybody else have any further ideas? I can provide logs if required but I have already looked through the logs with verbose mode enabled and cannot see any errors that would indicate an issue.

Summary: I can see the server after removing those registry keys above but as soon as I try to “Claim” the server to my account, the server becomes “unavailable”.

It stopped working for me about 2 weeks ago. Then it started again this morning. I was able to do the update from the Web App.

So far so good for the last 15 minutes but we’ll see.

Sorry if that’s not useful but I have no idea what’s going on anymore.
