Plex Media Server is unreachable

Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309
Player Version#: Version 4.12.3
Oct 12, 2020 xx:23:36.120 [0x7f1d3310a700] Warning — HTTP error requesting GET http://192.168.1.xx:xxxxx/wps_device.xml (0, No error) (Failed to connect to 192.168.1.xx port xxxxx: Connection refused)

So here is my delima and I am not sure how to solve for it. I have an ATT router/modem and I have a TP-Link AX600. I am using the ax6000 in AccessPoint Mode. I cannot seem to connect via plex. However I can login to my nas and see the files are there if I loginto my synology device. However it is unreachable for plex.

The address you show above is not a RFC-1918 compliant LAN address.
If that’s your LAN then you’ll need get that sorted to be compliant (your ISP will be happier too if you do) for Plex to work.

Can you share a bit more of the topology?

It’s not clear what is connected to what and connecting which from where.
Maybe a 1-2-3 step so I can draw it?

Hi @ChuckPa,

Thank you for your time.

I have a ATT Fiber modem/router 5268AC - Then I have a AX6000 - this is in access point mode. The Synology is plugged into the 5268AC and the ax6000 is my main router for everything.

On the 5268AC -
I have port forwarding open on 32400, 80, 443, 5001

The AX6000 is on access point mode as I have stated earlier.

What else can I provide you with to figure this out?

First and foremost, What is the LAN IP address of the Synology, and the LAN -side of the main router (I do not need to know your public IP address).

The AX6000 will also have a LAN address when in AP mode. May I also have that address?

@ChuckPa

The main router - 192.168.1.254
The ax6000 - 192.168.1.85
Synology - 192.168.1.77

Is it possible for me to get your ZIP logs?

That fragment in the OP is really not much to go on.

It could be the result of a harmless SSDP query

I’m sorry, I had requested the entire ZIP file for a reason.
Snippets are often grossly insufficient.
Can you help me out?

Sure thing, can you point me in the direction on how to get the full zip.

@chuckpa Let me know if this is it.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-10-13_16-37-15.zip (421.0 KB)

That’s it. Reading now

@thegurwinder

Your logs are looking ok but the entries on Plex.tv aren’t.

I’m seeing multiple entries for one of your servers.

It was last accessed about 2 hours ago and the previous incarnation of it was a day ago.

If you’re getting ‘unreachable’, that’s probably because what you have pinned is looking for that old incarnation.

Would you like me to clear out the obvious duplicates so you can reset the player and “pin” it to the server?

Yes that would be great!

I’ve removed the two duplicates of the Avengers-related server.

If you’re using the web browser, sign out (upper right corner) and open the server by IP address and sign in again.

If using a player app, Reset it’s pinning / customizations and select the server name again

That did not work for me. I have content uploaded and it shows that the library is empty.

How are you trying to access it? Plex.tv or locally?

Let me explain fully, and maybe this will help:

I have a MacBook pro on which I was using plex to stream movies. I then purchased a Synology and was running plex media server there. That Synology (hailhydra) crashed like 2 years ago and I never got around to fix it. Multiple drives crashed so I got new drives the other day and rebooted the Synology and set it up again.

How I am trying to access Plex? When you log into the Synology I select the plex app and it launches in a separate browser tab. I also tried access it from the plex app on my bravia TV to no avail. It might be a synology issue, but I am about to give up.

@thegurwinder

Not to fear.

What you’re probably seeing is the apps remembering (pinned) to where they were before.
They decided to do that so, when you come back to watching something, you’re back on the same server you were before instead of needing to fumble around and get back to where you where when you last stopped. The one situation it can’t handle (nor can it know) is if the saved server is simply offline or has been deleted.

Knowing that, let’s delete the old entry Plex has for the now-defunct installation on the Synology.

  1. Make sure PMS is stopped on the Syno
  2. Open the web browser
  3. Click Settings (upper right) - Authorized Devices (upper left)
  4. in the right pane, it will show you everything. Let’s filter that.
  5. Click the dropdown and select “Server”
  6. Now you will see ever server, regardless how old, even if duplicate name, still in your Plex acount.
  7. By clicking the “X” , followed by “Remove”, you can remove all the old & unused entries.
  8. When you’re done, sign out of the web app (click your avatar - upper right, sign out)
  9. Start PMS in Package Center on the Syno
  10. In your browser, now open the Synology by LAN IP (10.x.x.x, 172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x , or 192.168.x.x)
  11. You should be greeted by the ‘Sign in’, ‘Got it’ and ‘Found a new server’ messages (the setup wizard).

Since you last tried to set this up, I’ve created a How-To for the Synology.

If anything I’ve written is unclear, please ask.

@ChuckPa You are a Rockstar! I got it to work. I removed the servers, but that was not the only problem. What I did not realize was that the default media folders are not available to plex. I used your guide to create the media folders and moved everything over! Thank you so much!!! I truly appreciate it!
