Server Version#: 4.29.2
Player Version#: Web Browser
Since the last upgrade I get the 500 Internal Server Error when opening Plex Media Server http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html and the Plex Server application frequently crashes.
I had the same problem. I am running the server on an old MacMini patched to run Mavericks. After the last update The server stopped working with the internal server error 500 in the web browser. There were no problems with the MacMini so I went to the Plex web page to download the latest version. The web page directed me to download the latest version for Mavericks which i installed. I still had the same problem. I checked old downloads and installed an old version and everything works. I do not allow automatic updates but I have just been doing them.
This is a backup server with synced media files. The master server on a newer MacMini with High Sierra installed had no issues with the update so it seems to be a Mavericks issue.
I seem to be having the same issue with my server running on Mac OS X 10.9.5. However, downgrading to an earlier version does not completely solve my issue. When on an earlier version, I am able to access my Plex server, but my libraries are inaccessible, quoting some sort of network issue. I have provided logs, but I’m unsure of where to start. Should I provide logs for the most recent version of my server, where it has the 500 Internal Server Error, or would it be better to hunt down the issue with the libraries being unaccessible?
Thank you for any help. I’m really unversed in the complexities of Plex’s web server situations.
+1. Updated to server version 1.25.0.5220-de6e61df7 and Plex no longer functions on the machine. I am running OSX 10.9.5 on a 2009 MBP. Server shows up when I load the application, but media art does not load, and playing from any device on this server fails. The app also crashes, it seems. Working fine yesterday. I can’t put my finger on what happened here. Server seemed to crash while I was accessing the music library remotely, then when I got home this is the state it was in.
Previous server version was 1.24.5.5173-8dcc73a59 which appears to have been committed to the upgrades folder on 11/10/2021. This may have been the initial version causing problems. Prior to that, I was running 1.24.2.4973-2b1b51db9 without any problems since about 9/1/2021.
I’ve switched back to the Public channel for updates for now, and I’m working on restoring the database from a couple of days ago. I’ll try to get that DB running on the current version to see if this is a DB corruption issue vs a software bug. If that doesn’t work, I’m planning to downgrade two versions and try again. I’ll update when complete.
I did confirm that the problem persisted after keeping the same version and reverting my database backups from 2 versions prior when the library was working without incident. This does not appear to be a data corruption, but rather a software bug with the new versions. Will downgrade and report back.
Confirmed working with current database (which was post-upgrade) and previous software version. No corruption took place, but something in that update is incompatible with this environment.
Also, if anyone is stuck trying to revert to the previous version and cannot find a good path or doesn’t have the full installer, I patched backward by unzipping the contents of the last upgrade back into the app folder like this:
cd /Applications/Plex\ Media\ Server.app
7z x ~/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Updates/1.24.2.4973-2b1b51db9/packages/PlexMediaServer-1.24.2.4973-2b1b51db9-macos-x86_64-standard-full.zip
Then answer “A” to overwrite all files in the package. You could use other tools besides 7zip to do the legwork. That was just simplest for me. Works great so far. Will uninstall and reinstall the next compatible version unless a fresh install package for that compatible version becomes publicly available from a reputable source. They seem to have removed public access from non-current versions of the software for download.
I was successful once I went back to *.4973. thanks for the help. I did remember to turn off auto update. When do we anticipate a fix, or are we aging out our old Macs running OS 10.9.x
I’ve followed the steps to downgrade my server (now on 1.24.2.4973), and have successfully accessed its settings, but now my libraries are claiming that they cannot connect. Mind you, I’m accessing the server by going to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web on the machine that the server is running on, which is of course the same machine that has the hard drive connected and mounted with all of the content of the libraries.
What’s stranger still is that in my list of servers, 2 are listed, both with the same name (Zebes), but one is connected, and the other is unavailable.
I have tried turning off secure connections just in case there was a certificate issue with being on 10.9.5, but I’ve fixed my certificate issue already, so that’s not likely the cause.
Earlier in my troubleshooting, I tried completely uninstalling PMS and re-installing fresh. In that process, I was walked through the normal setup where it asks me to name my server and such, which I gave the same name as the previous, so that’s the only other thing my brain is considering as the issue. That I have 2 different servers with the same name that both run on the same machine, but because the fresher one is running, there’s no way to switch to the other server. Is this a thing?
Any and all help here would be greatly appreciated!!
Seems so for now. Plex claims it works with 10.9 but it obviously does not. Maybe a future update will fix it. It seems 10.9 will not be supported much longer. It is a 9 year old OS after all and my Mac Mini running it is now running Plex Server for a decade and has done it’s job quite well. Time for an upgrade maybe?
I tried running the most recent update on 10.9.5 and it returned the same issue of a 500 error. I gave up and just upgraded my iMac to 10.12 and now everything’s working. Sounds like 10.9 is being left behind
