Server Version#: DSM 6.2.1-23824 Update 1
Player Version#: 1.16.0.1226
Hello! I have a DS718+, I bought it a year or more ago and it has been working great. I have had Plex Media Server installed the whole time and been using it no problem, up until today. For reasons I don’t understand when I go to the web client for it on my PC (localhostIP:32400/web), it now says it can’t find a Plex Media Server, even though the package on my DSM is clearly running and the service is there. Nothing has changed that I am aware of in the last two weeks that would cause this, and I’m the only one that uses this machine or has access to the NAS.
I originally had Plex 1.13.5 installed when this problem arose, and I just updated it to 1.16 to see if it would help at all, still no joy, client can’t find the server. The permissions are all still there, so what the hell happened? Do I need to update my DSM itself, which I have put off because I’m worried it will break my Deluge package?
Also, for the record, I can also see the Plex Media Server as a networked location on my Windows PC that is on the same network. So the service itself is clearly still running on the NAS, but the webclient apparently won’t let me see it any longer. The web client is literally running off of the server on the NAS, so how the hell does it not see that damn media server?!?!?!
I tried running “claimit” and after it retrieves the PMS identifier it gives an error:
“PROBLEM: getting plex.tv Authetication Token…Job Aborted”
“Error was: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.”
“FATAL ERROR…Job Aborted”
Edit: I tried logging in through the Plex App and my password broke for some reason so I reset it and tried again with ClaimIt.
I got a couple steps further. It got a PMS identifier, a plex.tv User token, and Claim Token, and then it says “Can’t Claim PMS” and aborts citing another 401 error.
Edit2: Okay I’ve made some further progress, deleting the .xml preference file and restarting the server does now allow me to see it in the web client and access files from it, however I still cannot claim it to my account for some reason. It clearly says it is unclaimed, but it won’t allow me to do so.
I attempted signing out of everything and signing back in, it still won’t allow me to claim the server for some reason.
“This server is unclaimed and not secure
Claiming this server will associate it with your Plex account.
This helps your devices find each other and helps keep your media safe.”
It also oddly says a newer version of Plex is available when I clearly have the newest one I just manually installed.
I can’t restart the modem/router right now so I’ll have to come back to this later. I have a new damn problem after the Plex update that keeps giving me codec errors trying to play any files.
When I go to that folder there aren’t any files there at all. That folder is empty. I’ve restarted Plex a bunch and nothing makes it download those codecs.
I found another thread of people having this happen, and one of the Plex guys said to select all the files in the web client and “Analyze” them so it could find any missing codecs, and I tried that, and it hasn’t updated any codecs, as evidenced by that empty folder.
The “e944d3a-1309-linux-ubuntu-x86_64” folder has like 6 .so files in it tho, should I delete those?
Edit: Nothing I do will get the codecs to download, is there somewhere I can download these manually to put in the folder myself? Why isn’t PMS automatically grabbing these codecs? O.o
I’ve tried forcing it to transcode in a variety of ways, through optimize, analyzing shows/movies, no matter what I do it doesn’t actually download codecs, just gives the error and then nothing happens. Even if I try to run it without transcoding anything, it still gives me codec errors.
I actually just uninstalled version 1.16 and went back to 1.13.5 and it works now, so I guess there is simply something wrong with the newest version of PMS for Synology. It refuses to download any codecs though, so unless I can find them somewhere and manually copy them over, I guess I’m never updating PMS? O.o
