I came home to a problematic plex server. I updated it to the newest version and it still does the same: it loads the movies, but some of them are without pictures. Then it start to get really slow and when I click on a film, it usually ends with an error saying something went wrong. I have two logs folders because one of them came from a Plex media server folder inside the Plex folder in Local Appdata, and the other came from Plex Media server that is a direct child of Local. I don’t know if I’m supposed to have those two, I have another plex media server but it is on my Shield (which works fine and I can access through the Plex software. Also I have not included Installer logs and PMS Plugin logs since they took too much space. Also the Plex desktop app became vey unreliable and started crashing when opening it. The website gives the same “Something went wrong
An unexpected error occurred”.Any ideas?
Thanks for the help. I don’t think that was the problem since plex.tv did the same thing: it was a problem with the server. Also, I don’t have any more space on my C drive (I have a very small SSD only for Windows). I did reinstall Plex though, directly on my D drive, and it seems to have solved the problem. I think having Plex in my document folder worked for years, why can that cause problems? Now that I’ve reinstalled it and it works, should I still delete the plex folder from LocalAppData?
Thanks. I don’t think I’ve had that problem in the 4 years I’ve used Plex so I was really confused (I still am). Either way, it seems to work now ! So thanks for looking into this!
Plex Media Server is looking for some directories that are currently unavailable or no longer exist.
Trying to read a non-existent file system can cause problems. It will keep trying to access those directories and wait for the operation to timeout.
If the directories are no longer in use, check your libraries and remove the folder entries.
If they are in use, make sure they are available (if SMB shares from a Shield, do not shut it down or put it to sleep).

The files from W, X, Y are from network drives that are plugged on the shield. I didn’t have any problem with those, and the plex media server for those is located on the shield. But thanks for the link to move the plex media server, I needed that!
Short Version: Look at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server. How large is it? You can relocate it to another drive if desired, freeing up space on your C: drive.
Long version:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server, the Plex Data Folder, is used by Plex Media Server.
It holds the Plex Media Server database, downloaded metadata, chapter thumbnails, etc.
It will grow as you add new media to your Plex server, especially if the server is configured to generate chapter and video preview thumbnails (ex: 77.6 GB on my server).
You mentioned the C drive on your system was short on space. I wanted to let you know you can relocate the Plex Data Folder to free up space on the C drive.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex is used by Plex for Windows Client. It is relatively small, ~600MB, and does not grow over time. There is no need to relocate this folder.
I was talking about the Plex folder, which like you said, isn’t that big so I’ll keep it there. Now today I started plex again, and I am having the same problem that I had. I just figured it is because of what you’ve told me here: the server is looking for files on network shares ( I made a new library with files as network shares just to be able to have a library containing all of my movies to look for duplicates) but because sometimes the network drives loses connection, it causes this error, which is probably what causes the plex desktop app to crash on startup. Now I’m only looking for a new way to get a library containing films from 2 servers since mapping a network drive isn’t reliable for me. This is not for watching, only for looking for duplicates. Thanks!
