I am not really following this. I run this command in SSH? then i am not sure where to find the output. "Plex Share (volume1)?
- Create a scheduled task of type user-script
- paste these two commands in it and run the script once
- The output will be in your Plex share (volume1).
- Compress the file (right-click it)
- Attach that file here with your reply.
I think i got it, see attached filesynopkg-plex.zip (3.4 KB)
perfect. reading through it now.
Thank you. I got what I was hoping for.
2020/09/05 20:14:48 start Plex Media Server 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9 End start-stop-status start ret=[1]
Please go back into the Plex / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server / Logs directory
Grab the file Plex Media Server.log and upload it please.
logs like before
Logs.zip (8.5 MB)
Thank you for that.
It’s now confirmed. User plex does not have access to the Plex share -OR- the files in it.
- Control Panel - Shared Folders - EDIT the Plex share - Permissions tab.
- Make certain user
plexhas Customize (which I set when creating) or R/W
(minimum) to access to the share. - If you change this , OK to exit and then try again.
- If this fails,
- Open File Station, Right-click “Plex” in the left panel → Properties → Permissions.
- Make certain user
Plexhas Full Control - Click `Apply to this folder, subfolders, and files
- Click
OK.
- When complete, Start Plex.
changed to custom and full control but the same error happened when I started plex app
Do I need to completely remove Plex from my NAS and start over?
Did you also perform the next step where the permissions are set ?
yes I did
In that Scheduled task user script you have to use as a base,
I’d like you to run the following commands.
Make certain it runs as user: root
If PMS doesn’t start after this, then you and I will need to work out something where I can get my hands on the machine.
I suggest this because a brand new NAS should never be this way.
chown -R plex:users /volume1/Plex
find /volume1/Plex -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
find /volume1/Plex -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
Note: This may take a bit to complete so don’t be alarmed. It’s making 3 full passes through all the files in the Plex shared folder
running the task now
I have not seen any output. Should this be in the Plex folder under File Station?
There won’t be any output. This is 100% silent.
When it finishes, the CPU and resource monitor will be quiet again.
still no luck. Plex will not start up. Fails again.
Interesting note, after running the script above it changed the permissions of Plex, where I needed to set up as customized again.
Are you going to be awake for a bit?
Please check your PM.
PM
I have a DS920+ with the same issue and I spent hours going around in circles. The problem was in my face all the time. You are not going to believe this! I did the following:
- Uninstalled Plex Server;
- Deleted the File Share;
- Deleted the Plex User, it is important to delete all remnants;
- Fired up Chrome instead of FireFox;
- Downloaded the PMS from Plex, fresh copy;
- Logged into the DSM and did a manual install;
- It worked!
The problem was Firefox! I keep a virgin Chrome installed which I don’t use but only for testing sites. I suspect the cause was a security setting that I have set in Firefox that is the problem. Damned if I know which one.
