Plex Media Server on Synology NAS (Docker) with some libraries on second NETGEAR ReadyNAS 428

Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364
Player Version#:N/A
I’ve had PMS running in docker on my Synology 1019+ for some time now. No issues except I was running out of space. I also have a NETGEAR ReadyNAS 428 and wanted to have some additional (but different) libraries on there. I’m guessing this is a permissions issue but for the life of me I can’t figure it out.

I mounted a remote folder located on the NETGEAR on the Synology called “data2”. The structure is “data2/media/movies/Movies_4k_Documentaries”.

If I drop a folder/file in that directory on either NAS it shows up on the other. All good there.

I mounted the remote “data2” folder in the Synology Plex Docker container.

I created a new library for 4k Documentaries in Plex and mapped the “data2/media/movies/Movies_4k_Documentaries” to that library. Plex could see the folder to map and can see the movie folders in that directory.

When Plex scans the the library it does not find anything even though there are two movie folders inside.

Any ideas?

I decided to upload a random movie I had on my windows box to the ReadyNAS 4k doc folder and Plex picked it up. I moved the two original movies to my windows box, deleted them from the ReadyNAS and uploaded them again from the windows box. Both were picked up by Plex. Definitely a permissions issue but I’m getting somewhere now at least.

Figured it out: The ReadyNAS had f*cked inheritance permissions for the “data2” folder. As new folders were added, they were not assigned the correct permissions. ReadyNAS is garbage for shared file permissions.

Under settings for the share folder you have to go to “File Access” and select “default access” and check the box “Specify permission when a new file/folder is created. Otherwise inherit permission from parent”.
