Plex Media Server randomly loses connection, needs to be restarted

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2764

Hello all, I’m running into a frustrating issue with my Plex media server. Basically what’s been happening is periodically my server will be unable to be accessed remotely and I have to end up restarting the service in Windows. After restarting it pops up immediately and works fine. Half of me wants to just write a script to automate a restart but I’d really rather fix the issue. When this occurs as far as I can tell no crash logs are generated and I cannot find anything in the logs that give me any clues as to what is going on. Anyone experience something similar? Sometimes I find when I hover over the Plex logo in the menu bar to restart it disappears like a crash, other times it stays like it’s still running fine.

I’ll give a little background on the configuration in case it can help with troubleshooting, I’m locally hosting all the files the server is accessing on an Unraid NAS. The Plex media server itself is running on a Windows 10 PC because it has a graphics card better suited for hardware trans-coding. The router is running with uPnP enabled, everything on Plex defaults and streaming works flawlessly… until it doesn’t. Any help would be greatly appreciated! (Troubleshooting routes, etc)

Thanks

Try using manual port forwarding instead of uPnP. See Troubleshooting Remote Access.

For monitoring, look at uptimerobot.com. You can set it to monitor your remote access port and send you an e-mail when it loses contact.

Went ahead and followed the steps and will report back in a few days if the problem is fixed! Thanks for the tips. Seems to be stable right now.
