Helping someone debug remote access. They have a WD MyCloud with plex set up. We’ve assigned the MyCloud a fixed local IP address and it appears in the Port Forwarding list automatically. however the problem is accessing the plex media server. This creates its own seperate Port Forwarding entry however the Public (WAN) port is a random number (not the fixed one we have entered in the plex settings). On top of this the My Plex Server port Forwarding entry takes a new DHCP IP address separate from the MyCloud NAS fixed IP and so we can never tell what internal IP it will have.
Why doesn’t the auto created Plex Port Forwading Rule respect the “Manually assign Public Port”?
Why is the Plex Media Server port forwarding grabbing a new internal IP?
Start with a clean state
You can only tick the box when remote access is enabled - so need it first to use a random port
Disable remote access
wait
Enable remote access
wait
select show advanced
tick manually specify port
enter the public port
click retry
As it switches, it will disable remote access
wait
Enable Remote Access
it should now be using the manually specified port
