I’ve just updated to Plex Media Server 1.18.7.2438. The installation seemed to go well and the server restarted normally. But almost any activity causes the server to hang - starting ‘Update Libraries’, playing media, etc. The Plex menu continues to be responsive but cannot action anything properly, not even Quit. The only way to make is stop is force-quitting. The same problem repeats following a reboot. Anyone else seeing this?
Just to be sure that the installation of the update isn’t causing an issue, you may want try downloading the PMS file directly from https://plex.tv and copying it over the version in your /Applications folder.
It also wouldn’t hurt to check for database corruption as that can cause issues (poor performance, inability to access libraries, outright server crashes).
Also, if you upgraded from a 1.17.x or earlier release, and you have a large music library, be aware that there were some significant changes made to the music scanning agents/functionality. The updating of your music library after the upgrade could cause some significant performance issues until it’s complete.
I upgrade regularly and just upgraded from 1.18.6.2368
I just rolled back to that version and everything is working fine again. I suspect something is wrong with 1.18.7.2438. I might hold off until the next update to try again
May be similar to 1.18.7 crashes on macOS - #5 by terfex – it’d be nice to get logs (directly from the filesystem) if you’re willing to upgrade, test, zip up logs folder, and attach to a post here, then downgrade
Fair enough. However, I’m running 1.18.7.2438 on macOS 10.15.3 and haven’t experienced the issues you described since upgrading yesterday. I don’t think there’s anything fundamentally wrong with this release. Of course, I’m just one person not having issues; maybe there are others who are.
If you haven’t already, re-downloading from the website and copying the bundle over the one in the Applications folder wouldn’t hurt anything. Just in case you got a corrupt download via the built-in upgrade via the web UI (if that’s how you upgraded).
I am on a Macintosh running Mojave. I upgrade to 1.18.7 and Plex loses contact with my server.
The quit command no longer works, so have to force-quit PMS.
I. have to revert to PMS 1.18.6 and Plex is working again.
Is there something new which I have to do to reestablish connection details with Plex?
I am also having a lot of issues with 1.8.7.2438. I have had to repair my install TWICE now. It works fine, I reboot my pc, plex is no where to be found. Its not running despite being in the startup task. Trying to launch it manually doesn’t work. No errors in my application event log. I have no idea whats going on here but this release isn’t stable. Devs, are you listening? Windows 10, 1909. Latest updates.
Add me to the list. Interestingly I found the issue seemed to arise during a media scan. I’m on macOS 10.4.6 (no not Catalina, I’m in the process of moving away from iTunes before upgrading). All fine with 1.18.6 but all hell broke loose with 1.18.7.2438=f342a5a43. Logs attached. Plex Media Server Logs_2020-02-22_06-05-12.zip (3.9 MB) However do understand it’s not possible to get logs through the usual procedure mentioned (https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/) unless the server can be recovered. Mine would only respond until after numerous force restarts through Activity Monitor in macOS.
Something is definitely wrong with this so-called “update”.
After much cursing and frustration. I have also reverted back to 1.18.6.
Everything running smoothly now.
I am having much the same issue.
why why why, are there so many updates???
Apparently to fix other crashes. See here: Plex Media Server
It is common to have many Beta, if you change your update Channel in Server settings / general to public. You will then only receive stable versions.
Beta is for testing, if you opt in your testing a future fix or feature
But this is not a beta… should be all tested…
v1.18.7.2438 is not a beta.
It was 24 hrs prior, so a rushed release
And the users pay for it.
sometime I wonder if there goal is to piss off enough users that they head over to Emby and then Plex can go VOD only, make the management some money for the short term… Don’t think it would last long…
Oh, you have put a lot of thought into the frank statement
Seems harsh. This update is an aberration from my perspective - I’ve been regularly updating for quite a while without problems. I’m other quite happy with the progress Plex has made. I’ve never used software that was always flawless.
Having the same issues. Same version. Re-installed from web site. I can watch a show or so and after some time (next morning), the server is in a hung state. Cant open a single library and cant connect to the server through any remote app or the web interface. Going to try and find a prior version. Running on Windows.
