Hi
I have setup a plex media server. When its streaming to my raspberry pi it uses 96% CPU. Using a sambe share and streaming uses almost non when using the same .avi file.
I have a dual core 2.4GHZ CPU.
Any ideas or help as I do not want it to be at 96% for the entire movie.
It's transcoding the media. Whatever client you are running on the Pi has told the server the media you have selected it is not in a format the Pi can support - hence, the server is transcoding it into the something the client on the Pi says it can support. How long the transcode will last depends on the complexity of the media.
If the Pi can play it normally, sounds like whatever hacked client you are using isn't working well.
so if for example I use the Roku it should technically stop the high cpu load after a short time ?
maybe, the roku still has a list of supported formats, if the media is not one of them it'll transcode - how long that takes depends on your media.
Does it
A. transcode all the movie as quickly as possible and then drops the CPU load or
B. does it transcode it throughout the entire length of the movie with a constant high CPU usage or
C. Does it transcode a little at the start then drop cpu usage then do a little more then drop cpu usage again and so on until the end of the movie ?
Sorry about all the questions but I just want to be sure I know how this process works.
Thank you.
depends on your version of PMS, older versions =A, newer versions =C and if your CPU is not fast enough to keep up with the playback speed then it's going to look like B is happening.
Ok thank you for your help!
