Plex_Media_Server v1.25.3.5385 No Remote Connections Now

Server Version#: v1.39.1
Player Version#: v1.25.3.5385

Since the update on Jan 11. According to the “Remote Access” window, I can no longer maintain a remote connection. This has not been an issue for over two years.

It shows fully accessible while I am in the “Remote Access” window. As soon as I click into another window the green checkmark turns to Red.

I’d be happy to run some CLI commands if requested.

In the meantime, how do I roll back to 1.25.2.5319??

ADENDUM 1/12/20221
Just rolled back to 1.25.2.5319 and the Remote Access problem disappeared.

In regards to rolling back to a previous version on macOS… even though it’s not explained anywhere on this website that I have found (which is really odd ) I have figured it out.

HOW TO ROLL BACK PLEX VERSION ON MAC OS

  1. Turn off automatic updates in Plex Media Server

  2. Close Plex Media Server

  3. Open up two windows on your mac:
    /Users/uname/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Updates
    /Applications/Plex Media Server.app
( to open the second window you will need to right click on the Plex Media Server.app application and choose: “Show Package Contents” )

  4. Locate the previous version by date or version number* and open the folder to reveal its contents:
    manifest.xml.bz2 and another folder packages.

  5. Open the packages directory and double click on the PlexMediaServer-1.xx.x.xxxx-xxxxxxxxx-macos-x86_64-standard-full.zip file to expand it into the current folder.
( There will now be a new folder - Contents )

  6. Holding the ⌘ (command) key, drag this folder into the other window titled: :plex: Plex Media Server.app

  7. When Finder tells you the folder already exists choose: “Replace”

  8. Delete the expanded file in the packages folder if you forgot to hold down the ⌘(command) key.

  9. Restart Plex Media Server

*in case you don’t have old copies in the Updates folder (if you deleted them to make room on your HD) you can find long-format version numbers in the update log file located here:
/Users/uname/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/update-log.txt

You can then download an older version by copying the download link of the current version and adding the old version number where it occurs (2 positions) in the download link.

You can plug that modified link into a web browser or you can use curl on the command line.

curl -o $HOME/Downloads PMS_previous.zip https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server-new/1.xxx.x.xxxx-xxxxxxxxx/macos/PlexMediaServer-1.xxx.x.xxxx-xxxxxxxxx-x86_64.zip

Do not rely on the checkmark. At times it can show remote access as not available when it is really working OK.

You can verify remote access in a number of ways:

  1. Stream remotely from your phone over the mobile network.
  2. From a system on the same network as the server, go to canyouseeme.org, enter your remote access port number, and check connectivity.
  3. Use a service such as Uptime Robot (free). It checks your remote access port every 5 minutes and send you an e-mail if it cannot see your server. You must be using a manual remote access port for this service. It has no way to determine the port number when using UPnP.

Thanks for the response @FordGuy61

That may be the case. I will check, but I think maybe we shouldn’t have to do this?

I am raising it here in the hopes that it will be corrected because there has been a regression.

I do see the connection in my lsof results.

Yes, ideally the indicator is always correct. However, that is not always the case. And if the indicator is unreliable then it should be reported on the forum, so others are aware and so Plex can hopefully fix it.

I was just commenting that you may want to verify whether or not remote access is really offline before falling back to a prior version. Verifying if remote access is working is quick and easy. Falling back to a previous version, not so much.

By the way, is this the only way to report issues, or is there another more appropriate channel? Sometimes I post and I receive no indication any plex developers have seen the post.

I understand there are hundreds of posts a day and it must be hard to weed through them.

This forum is the official way to report issues or request assistance.

There is also r/plex on reddit. I’ve noticed several people on the forum also reply to posts on reddit, including a few Plex employees.
