Plex Media Server: What happens after Jan 2020?

Just wondering what will happen to PMS installs post-Jan 2020. Will they keep working as they have, just no updates?

Nothing. The announcement was PMP and not PMS.
If you don’t know what PMP is then there is nothing to worry about.

EDIT. Just to elaborate PMP (Plex Media Player) Is a client. If you don’t use it, don’t worry.

Ah OK. I got my acronyms messed up. So the Plex I have installed on my FireTV: Is that the PMP or something else?

It’s neither. PMP usually just runs on a Windows or Mac. (But totally separate to PMS)
Anything else like a Firestick, chromecast, Roku, Shield etc… are like clients like PMP but totally unrelated to PMP.
You really need not worry.

Sorry to invade your thread here.

I have a PC with two 2TB USB 3.0 hard drives attached running PMS. Two of my TVs access plex through apple TV = no problem. Correct?

My son has a gaming pc where he uses a web browser to access plex. Will that still work? If not, we’ll buying access through the windows app be the trick?

Correct! All the apps for various devices work fine, it’s just the PMP software (for PC/Mac/Linux) that’s being retired.

Plex via web is fine too! So your son is set.

BTW the Windows app is free to download, so he could use that instead of the browser if he desires. It plays more formats without transcoding.
